I have seen evil. True, unfiltered, yeast-risen evil. Her name is Mary, and she runs a bake shop.
The shop was freezing inside—not from air conditioning, but from a deep, unnatural cold that settles in your bones. The walls were lined with shelves of what I think were bread loaves, but most looked like hunks of petrified sorrow. Some pulsed slightly. One hissed at me.
Mary emerged from the back room in silence. She didn't speak. She hovered. Her apron was spotless, but her eyes were full of crimes. I asked for something simple—“just a loaf of fresh bread.” She smiled, but it wasn’t kind. It was the smile of someone who’s watched empires collapse and helped.
She handed me a heavy, misshapen brick wrapped in black wax paper. I took it home, foolishly optimistic.
The bread was... unnatural. The crust was sharp and jagged like volcanic rock, and the inside had a damp, spongy texture that squeezed back when I pressed it. After two bites, I swear I heard whispering. Not from the bread—from inside my own head. I threw the loaf out, but it showed up on my kitchen counter the next morning. Still warm.
I’ve tried everything. Holy water. Fire. The garbage disposal. It always comes back.
I went back to confront Mary, but the shop was gone. Just a blackened patch of ground and the faint smell of burned wheat.
DO NOT GO TO MARY’S BAKE SHOP.
The bread isn’t just bad. It’s evil. And once you’ve tasted it… you’re never really...
Read moreThe place is quite expensive. I got the "big" breakfast which is really just a classic breakfast marked up. Came with 2 eggs which were cooked perfectly over medium. One small sausage patty and a small portion of undercooked home fries. The only thing "big" about the breakfast was the toast, which was two huge slices of fluffy home made bread that was delicious. However I'd much rather another piece of meat in place of one slice of toast, especially considering the price of the breakfast.
I always enjoy the atmosphere and classic look of the place. Mary's is truly the last of its kind. A warm and inviting restaurant with friendly service, frequented by friendly community members. Every time I go to Mary's I'm reminded of more...

They have homemade bread and it's delicious. They also have a variety of treats such as cookies and cakes. I bought the molasses cookies and chocolate chip. They are made with quality. We got a bread to go because it was so good. Great place to see locals and get a real Perth...
