Came here for dinner with my husband and sister. When first arriving, it took about 10 minutes to be acknowledged and seated. We were the only group standing at the front door when we arrived, and we did see some wait staff walk past us during this time. We arrived around 5pm on a Sunday evening for reference. This level of service continued for most of the meal; it seemed as if not enough staff were working, as the servers did seem to be back and forth between multiple tasks. Only two beers were brought to the table, and the glasses sat empty for about 30 minutes. We would have ordered more if it was offered. We also had to find someone to take our payment when we were ready to leave. For the food, we tried several dishes. The Seafood Chowder was flavorful and had a decent amount of seafood in it. The price for the portion size was on the higher side ($9). The Moose Sausages were cooked well and came with mustard vegetables - great pairing. The Fish and Chips dish was probably the table favorite; huge portion size, batter was light golden brown and there was a solid fish/batter ratio. The Cod au Gratin was basically cod with melted cheese on top; this was the most disappointing dish. Definitely needed more flavor, more bechamel sauce, and a better construction. The Moose Burger was delicious and well-prepared. Overall, we had a good experience and would return for the Moose meals and fish and chips. We are hoping the service was a one-off/due to staff shortage.

We ate here a few years ago and it was phenomenal. Today, the food and service is definitely lacklustre. The spinach dip was just warm. It tasted alright but *very* tiny for $16 and some of the chips were almost soft and chewy, it was bizarre. I’m glad we didn’t add the crab for $10 extra. We both got the lobster mac and cheese ($36 each) and it was a small portion of what tasted like a frozen mac and cheese dinner with elbow noodles. I’m guessing they top it with the lobster and cheese before broiling because my cheese was only partially melted and the lobster was dried out, and rubbery as you can see in the picture. The garlic bread stole the show, it was fantastic. Our waitress who took our drink and food order was pretty inattentive, didn’t make small talk or anything, didn’t refill our drinks, couldn’t get her attention for another. Another couple of girls brought our appetizer and food. They were very sweet! We went for our anniversary and were planning to bring family from the states for some traditional Newfoundland grub but likely won’t be back. If you’re charging almost $40 for mac and cheese it should be out of this world. There’s cheaper places with bigger portions, and better quality to spend a hundred bucks for sure! (Fish Exchange!)

If I could give it more stars I would. This restaurant is situated in one of the most picturesque fishing towns in Newfoundland, that being historic Petty Harbour. The fish is so fresh, you see it walk in the door! That is not a word of a lie. If you stick around a bit, the owner can be seen bringing in buckets of fresh cod that was recently plucked from the North Atlantic through the front door. Our amazing server was Jenny. If you Google, Newfoundland Ambassador, Jenny will appear in position #1 of your search results. So friendly, so happy, so spirited, Jenny is one in a million. The food was exceptional. Portions are generous. The meal is an excellent value. Your trip to St. John's should include Signal Hill, Cape Speer, and Chafe's Landing...unless you are hungry then reverse the order. World class experience, in a down home style.

Best fish ever! I’ve been trying to come here for the past four years and I am so happy to have finally made it! The location in Petty Harbour is amazing. The cod cake as a starter was lovely! A little dry in texture but obviously very fresh. We also got the calamari, which was also so fresh and delicious! The fish was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The cod just fell into perfect pieces, it was amazing! The only thing that could make it any better would be improving the “chips”! The fries were average, if not, almost bad. I’m sure by just upping the fry game this establishment could never get a rating lower than a 4! Bob Taylor was performing and we couldn’t have asked for better! He really made our meal extra special, touching our hearts with a beautiful Newfoundland sound!

Starting off with the fish and chips are excellent. If that’s what you are looking for, this is a good choice. That being said, there are plenty of great fish and chip restaurants around and I wouldn’t go out of my way to come to this one. Despite the 5 star fish and chips, this restaurant is overall three stars. The menu on their website is incorrect. Their actual menu has been greatly reduced. Not only is their menu reduced, but they didn’t even have everything on their menu! No fish and brewis supper time on a weekend. The Mac and cheese is suitable for someone that likes unflavoured cheese, but I strong advise against if you are looking for something with taste. The restaurant was also understaffed with our waitress being a rare sight.

Big thumbs up for Staff member Kathryn who was personable and efficient . My rum punch and Pretzel was really great, seafood chowder was ok and the main cod pieces of fish in the fish and chips was excellent . It tended to stop there sadly. Chips looked and tasted like they were cooked a few hours ago, coleslaw was soggy with mayonnaise and the cod fish cakes were bland and tasted a lot of potato. My fingers itched to throw in some old bay seasoning or Bajan hot sauce to sparkle them up . Based on the reviews, in an area bursting with restaurants in charming harbours , I’d have to say I was a little disappointed. Bookings recommended and limited parking but off street parking can be found for $5.
