Unfortunately I cannot give a glowing review here... if you plan on using Stomping Grounds for catering, please quadruple check that your date is available. I had wonderful communications when I initially inquired on availability to cater an event with Emily, and all was great and they were available, so we started looking at menu options and going back and forth on that. I was just over a month out from the event date, and also expecting a baby any day, so very eager to have this confirmed and checked off my list of things to do... I was told that an email would be coming through with my quote, so I waited for that, and after being back and forth with Emily for over a week regarding the menu, and then not receiving the email, I called to touch base. Emily checked with the owner who had apparently emailed me but got my email address wrong, and here's the kicker, she was emailing to let me know that they aren't available for my date after all! Not cool! So here I was, thinking that all is good and my catering is secure, baby coming any day, and a month out from my event. Needless to say I was panicked and limited to find another option for catering, and very disappointed as I had heard great things about Stomping Grounds catering. I really wish they would have called to tell me that they were not in fact available after all, instead of emailing and not even getting my email right (which they admitted was their error). Had I not called them, I could still be thinking that all is good. I do not recommend this company...
Read moreI had a question about ingredients in a wrap & the staff had what I assume was a manager come to answer. The response felt weirdly defensive and it was difficult to get a straight answer. We ordered their vegan & gluten free brownie - other items in the case had indications on them such as ‘vegetarian’, ‘gluten free’ or ‘peanut butter’. Figuring this meant they labeled allergens, it didn’t feel necessary to inquire if there were nuts in the brownie and frankly didn’t want to ask anymore ingredient questions. Plus, items that contain nuts almost always indicate this as they’re know to be life threatening to some. They forgot to give us the brownie with the rest of our order so I went back up to get it. After one small bite, it was clear there was nuts in the brownie. I’m only allergic to almonds & since I avoid them it’s not anaphylactic. There were multiple almond ingredients in it, headed to a nearby pharmacy so it was no worries but - that’s pretty dangerous. Please take the time to label which products contain nuts, while it’s not a deadly allergy for me - an allergic reaction...
Read moreBeing of Peruvian background I was curious to check this place out as I was told they served Peruvian food. They do, but it wasn't what I expected.
This place is mostly a cafe joint a la JJ bean, as in top tier boutique style coffee shop. The coffee is excellent and and the confections are awesome, made from excellent ingredients. The food, I would say is not bistro level, especially at the prices they charge. Their catered food may be a different story. I ordered the Arroz con pollo wrap, which was tasty and the flavour was pretty close to authentic. An interesting westernized take on a staple Peruvian dish. The flavour wasn't as deep and intense to what I'm used to, I've eaten many variations of that dish, but still good. Not $10-$13 good but good. What was awesome though was the Peruvian bread pudding...Pudin De Pan. That and a pretty good Americano will probably have me coming back. Awesome coffee shop, okay Bistro, and I still need to check out their brunch. For a chef that won Chopped Canada, I was expecting a little bit more, especially in the Peruvian...
