I got in touch with MVB for a gluten free Birthday Cake for my celiac Wife and from start to finish the experience at MVB was top notch, they were able to help me customize my order (Raspberry Mousse cake with fresh raspberries and blueberries) and we great at communicating via email, we decided on a pick up time and I showed up an hour early (left early due to Cameron Lake fire) and the cake was just being made, Happy to wait for our agreed time and wow the fresheness of the mousse and fruits was in fact the best GF cake I've eaten!!!
The shop was busy but the staff are on top of things, I spent less than 5 minutes in total being served and out the door, everyone was friendly even in the fast paced environment and once again this Mousse will be something I crave until my next trip through Port Alberni!!!

Read moreThis place shouldn't be called a delicatessen or sell sandwiches and just stick to being a bakery. Very limited sandwich options, no soup was available, and what I did order was not good at all.
If you want to separate yourself from a gas station have some different options on a menu so people know what they are ordering, and make it to order instead of getting soggy and cold in a cooler. If you are sold out of a particular sandwich, or someone in front of you orders the last one. When I ask for the same thing offer to make it instead of saying we are out.
The staff wasn't rude but quiet and unhelpful with your confusing menu and no sandwich types.
I can't speak to how this place is as a bakery but as a place to stop and get soup and a sandwich, I'll take my business...
Read moreI found the staff members to be aloof and disinterested in me as a customer, simply because I asked if any of the items on their extensive menu were vegan, to which they starkly responded “no”. When I asked about specific items, it was in fact confirmed that there were indeed vegan options.
I suppose the take from is don’t go here if you have dietary restrictions because they don’t want to help, but ideally the cafe will change their approach, be aware of allergens in their products and welcome the creativity of baking some alternative options. A good business plan to thrive in the modern world.
