Sophia’s Sweets & Café — Restaurant in Port Colborne

I just had the best hamburger of my life. Served on scratch made Focaccia bread, I accepted Sophia’s offer of “everything on it?” which included fresh toppings and I am so glad I did. I don’t want to oversell my experience only to set others up for disappointment but I also owe Sophia a fair review. Frankly if someone doesn’t agree with my review the problem is theirs and not Sophia’s! Five of us were stuck at a ‘construction’ red light out front and it was serendipitous that one of us called lunch break right in front. Lots of free parking located immediately across the road behind an Instagram worthy Port Colborne signage. Sophia’s Sweets is understated from the street. Sophia serves all kinds of ‘home made’ style baked treats from behind her glass counters. There are coffees, a mix of canned sodas and a nice selection of sandwiches. Homemade meatballs included. I expect my beef patty was prepared onsite from fresh. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Others in our group added pastries to their meals, one stating his butter tart was the best he’s had. We aren’t pushovers. We often ride as a group and will ride miles just to have a destination specific pastry or burger. Indoor and outdoor seating. I had the opportunity to stop by and pick an assorted tray of goodies to take to a dinner party I was attending. I picked a variety of cheesecakes, 3 different types of brownies, nanaimo bars. As it was my first time in I was offered a butter tart and a blueberry lemon bar to sample while I waited for my order to be prepared. Absolutely wonderful! I found the pastry as good as my own. Definitely made with lard, such delicate flakiness just can not be achieved with shortening or oil. The tray was a major hit of the evening. I definitely recommend you try them out for yourself. I will be back and with Christmas fast approaching I’m going to be doing less baking...

We were so thankful when Sophia agreed to bake for our wedding. Not only is this not something Sophia typically does, but she did an absolutely fantastic job of setting up and making Sure everything was perfect. We got so so many compliments on our dessert table. We ordered, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, mini cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, butter tarts and even gluten free cupcakes. wasn't much left at the end of the night, as it was delicious!
