I had read that Brown's offers a lot of gluten free options, but when I talked to the server about my Celiac Disease, many of the items labeled gluten free actually are the subject of cross contamination.
I was disappointed with the use of the labeling, as many items with the label were not actually safe for me at all. If there were any disclaimers about shared fryers or cross contamination, I didn't see them on my menu.
I ordered a medium rare steak and the only option they offered me were extra mixed vegetables. The server mentioned specifically bell peppers and carrots etc. No other potato options that weren't fried in shared oil, and no rice options etc. I agreed because of course anything is better than being sick for a week.
When the meal arrived though, the steak was overcooked to a medium well and the extra veggies turned out to be a handful of steamed and unseasoned broccoli. So for the 25 dollar price tag, I received a small overcooked steak and a mountain of plain broccoli with a small amount of their regular seasoned vegetables.
Would it have been so hard to just increase the portion of the regular mixed vegetables, as I was told would happen? Could you not have tried to season the broccoli mountain?
I understand that there are limitations in what is safe, but other places I have been to have disclaimers about cross contamination written boldly in their menus or have alternative menus for allergens. They also have multiple suitable alternatives available for sides, and at least give the appearance of caring about the quality of the food.
I really wish they would not mark their menu with gluten free items if they are not prepared for celiac diners who may excitedly visit their restaurant because of those GF claims.
I will say that our server was lovely and the meals for the rest of my family were good. They were all happy. Nobody else got a broccoli-finger from the chef.
I'm looking at the photo icon and now I really wish I took a photo of the plate. The broccoli was truly a sight to behold. Did I mention I don't...
Read moreRepeat customer; Went 4 dinner on Wednesday July 16/2025 @ 6:45pm with a date as usual but this time our order took longer than usual & when it arrived that our waitress had completely forgotten all about our appetizers(1 x Hot Wings & 1 x Dry Ribs) but instead they brought out our steak dinners🥵 Ofcourse I kept my cool but after taking a bite & trying to control my cool & waited 4 our waitress, when she finally arrived & I flagged her down & asked to why our appetizers wasn’t there already as expected!!
She than apologized & tried to take our appetizer order once again😹till I clearly interrupted her and refused as it was already too late since they already had our main course out❗️
•How ever one L👀ks @ this that it’s wrong 😑as she should had listened to our order well! Cause while I was ordering earlier on, that she was writing our order down, So how could she had not heard me❗️
Usually with any other waitress there, after everyone has ordered that they repeat the order just incase they missed something; But with this particular girl that she never repeated our order❗️
As I said as this wasn’t our first rodeo @ Browns Social House restaurant in Newport Village in Port Moody & we have never had this experience @ this location before.
I was with a date & she really was looking forward to her “Hot Wings order” which was very disappointing that never happened😞
It’s time to give other restaurants in the neighborhood a try cause @least they won’t forget half my order & specially when I’m on a date.
In any case that I gave her 20% Tip as I would had anyhow
I was very disappointed 😔 as she should had @least repeated my order out loud before thinking that we never had ordered any appetizers❗️
After all I spent $164(including her tip of $30), so I expected to get the service for it which definitely...
Read moreRather disappointed by a business lunch meeting we had there on Tuesday after the lunch rush. Our server was not attentive, didn’t offer refills on the sods and I had to wave her down for a coffee refill. She didn’t offer to refill anyone else’s drinks. The kitchen brigade were swearing loudly in casual conversation. I work in hospitality as do my colleagues, so we get it. We can let a lot slide if it were super busy at the time or the kitchen is backed up, but we were at one point, the only table inside. Now, the food, when we arrived, we ordered 4 appys for the table, and they came out but the server. Had to be asked for side plates and extra napkins. The yam fries were cold, potato skins were missing items, lettuce wrap was good. We also ordered the calamari which surprised us as it was more than decent. i had the Florida sandwich, my chicken was burnt. It ruined the flavour of everything. I also asked for dressing on side, It came in a soup of dressing. My colleague got a slightly modified dragon bowl, and she got 3 Small pieces of chicken in her bowl. Another colleague got a regular dragon bowl and send it back, as hers was inedible. The server didn’t once touch the table or check in on us. We ordered desserts, no coffee or tea was offered to my colleagues or myself, and the carrot cake was quite terrible. Overall, it wasn’t a good meal. We were there for nearly 3 hours, and had to wave the sever down to bring us a bill. There were also 2 management types standing by the bar for the last 30 minutes and not once did they come and check on us. We had a lot of dirty plates and had to eat...
