I wanted to share my experience from my birthday vacation this past September . Weekend of 5th to 7th Service was slow and there was only ourselves and a table of 6/8 behind us. The girl was young so I was open to possibly still learning as she was very polite with a very mild quiet demeanor . My husband's Benny was disappointing, over cooked eggs ,his crispy potatoes weren't crispy cause they were over cooked but crispy cause some weren't cooked enough . I suggested he send it back which he hates to do but did and opted on toast instead as he didn't want to wait long or make me eat alone . The waitress apologized for the problem and said the meal would be Comped by the establishment . Shortly after the kitchen broke out in a shouting match between what I believe was the chef and another male possibly server dresses in black The arguing was heard from the patio, then came the Smashing dishes and when my husband said that is the kitchen I jumped out of my chair The young girl was standing at the bar counter crying ,yelling into the kitchen for them to stop .I blew past her with my husband in tow , as he wasn't letting me go in there alone The kitchen was turned upside down ,and the man dressed in black was welding a broom in defence from a chef throwing stuff.. .needles to say our yelling and our ability to take action into the kitchen drove the chef out the back door and he left yelling names at us also . Service was clearly over. The man dressed as a server in black was trying to make excuses ..I quickly said there's customers here.you are just as bad ..I was not impressed of what I witnessed. He respectfully agreed and apoligized quickly not to escalate another confrontation I found the waitress hiding in the laundry room down the hall sobing calling the OTHER owner .I say OTHER cause THE CHEF was part owner as stated by waitress. After briefly consoling her I told her what she needed to do as she still had customers out there.Comp their meal to save face for what just happened and to find another job if that's an owner that is no place to work .I suggested the same to the male dressed in black . As she stayed in the laundry room on the phone we went back to the patio where the table of 6/8 sat in shock but had not moved they applauded us for doing something.I told them that was unacceptable and apoligized for what they just witnessed and if the waitress does what I suggest she will be Comping their meal also .I told them if that happens please leave her a great tip .After a day like that she deserves it . With already tipping her in the laundry room We left more on the table for her .I drank my oj quickly and we left. I was in shock ..I have been a Bar and Restaurant manager for over 10 years with 25 years In the serving industry and I have never experienced anything like that as a customer . Hopefully some massive changes were/are made ... And hopefully the staff present were not left to clean up the kitchen .The mess and amount of broken dishes piled all over the floor was astronomical . Although not a great experience I will say the best part of the meal was my husband's toast and house made jam that had arrived just before the outburst . Cute place ..but I don't think we...
Read moreUpdate - responding to owner: I've worked in restaurants for 8 years. If there was an issue that prevented regular service and created a delay, the servers should be proactive and inform the customers. Also, 11 orders weren't placed at the same time since there were only 2 other tables sat prior to us. We were the third table in the restaurant and arrived at 9am when the restaurant opened. The other remaining tables arrived over a 15 minute period. Once we realized table service was badly delayed, we let the server know of our situation. We would have been happy to leave without food and hit McDonald's on the way to the ferry if we knew it would take 50 minutes for a simple breakfast. Regardless, we enjoyed the takeaway, we're just suggesting your staff be more proactive and let customers know when there will be a delay or if there is a problem with the grill or equipment. As I mentioned, other than the timing, everything else was great. We enjoyed our stay at the Inn and the waitress was lovely.
We stayed overnight at the Old Courthouse Inn and received a free breakfast from Edie Rae's Cafe. We had to catch a ferry so we made sure we were downstairs to eat at exactly 9am when they opened. We figured 30 minutes should be more than enough time to have a quick breakfast before heading to the ferry.
The waitress was wonderful and the decaf coffee was really good, however, we waited and waited for breakfast and it was 9:40am before we finally had to ask the waitress to box up our order for take out due to time constraints. By the time we finally received our order, it was 9:50 am. The first two tables received their food and the person who came in after us received their food before ours came out. It was slightly irritating that it took almost an hour to get a standard breakfast (scrambled eggs, home fries, toast, bacon) and an order of toast with tomatoes.
Regardless, we took the takeout boxes down to the ferry to eat and everything tasted great.
In summary, the waitress was very nice, the food tasted great, but 50 minutes for such a small order was ridiculous. I noticed that rather than making orders one at a time, the chef was making everybody's orders at the same time - this isn't a very productive way to service a restaurant - why should the people who come in first wait as long as the people who came in last?
Regardless, three stars given for the great waitress, coffee, and food - but the wait for breakfast (50 minutes for two small orders) was not...
Read moreWe went to Edie Rae’s with high expectations, we left severely disappointed. I would first like to say that this post has nothing against the servers, they tried their best and were courteous throughout.
This post relates to the quality of food which was poor and the chef/owner who is downright disrespectful. Yesterday we went to Edie Rae’s for Father’s Day, we were visiting from the lower coast and had another family with us, a total of 7 people.
We ordered 7 dishes and coffees and this is where the farce starts. Our coffees were bitter and cold. The food was poor at best, the toast burnt, the biscuits were raw and hadn’t risen, the eggs whether scrambled or poached were totally over cooked, the meat was dry and the hash browns were raw. Given this we hardly ate any of the food but still paid $180 with tip for this breakfast.
My partner who is a server was upset with the quality of the food and the cost and went to speak with the server. The server was great and offered to refund 2 of the breakfasts, we expected more but we were happy to take this offer. There was an issue processing the refund so the server went to speak with the owner who happened to be the chef. This is were it got serious.
It was pretty clear that the owner/chef was clearly offended that someone dare question the quality of his food, especially a server. He came rushing out the kitchen and started being verbally intimidating and confrontational with my partner who stayed calm throughout. He was rude, offensive and disrespectful to a female customer who he had just served a terrible meal too. This was a male being aggressive to a female in front of other customers including children.
I guess the moral of the story is don’t question quality of this guys food unless you want to be berated. Needless to say we will never be returning and we won’t be recommending this diner to any of our friends and family.
To get an insight into this owner check out his confrontational responses to others who have him bad review. I suggest he probably steps away from a customer...
