Burger Baron — Restaurant in Redwater

The food used to be awesome and the old owner was amazing but since the new people have taken over the quality of the food has gone down a lot. Ordered two burgers with fries and gravy tonight. The fries were old as heck and were all brown from sitting all day. Even the gravy was full of weird chunks. My wife and I used to love Burger Baron but now it is not worth the money. Also, if you do not tip them when picking up your food you WILL get dirty looks from the new owner. I remember when the old man was still running it. For years every time we went there he would himself press the "No Tip" button. He was an amazing elderly gentleman. If you had to pay with "tapping" as he called it he would automatically press the "No Tip" button. I do not mind tipping for food but when it is only a simple $12 burger and fries I don't always feel like they need a tip. I don't know if the pizza has gone downhill for quality or taste but I am sure they have. Also my wife ended up with severe stomach pains and bloating from the burger.

It's been years since I've been to a Burger Baron since the ones in Edmonton are pretty horrible. I had a feeling that maybe the quality and pride would be better in a smaller town and I was right. The service was great right when we stepped inside as the two guys acknowledged us right away. Even after ordering, we were instructed to take a seat and the guys brought out our food, utensils napkins and ketchup. The guys were incredibly friendly and even checked in to see if we were doing well. You barely get this level of professionalism in an actual sit down restaurant. The food and prices were amazing. It was around $30 to feed the 4 of us and we still had leftovers. The mushroom burger and the Salisbury burger were heavenly. My only regret was not ordering a triple! French fries are uncoated straight cut which is rare these days and tasted delicious. Poutine was massive but the gravy was a little bland. Otherwise it was an enjoyable visit. Bonus marks for having such a retro dining area, brought back memories when I was a kid eating at these types of tables. This Burger Baron is a must visit when...
