It took me a while to write this review. I don't mean finding the words but more figuring out what my opinion and experience was. This is why I gave Stones Throw 3 stars. I believe it's slightly harsh, however, fair to the general public. Stones Throw is realistically a Stones Throw away from the University Of Regina. Decent location to grab students for a break or coffee if you live near by. With multiple apartment complexes nearby as well, I think it's a pretty good location for a coffee store. My general problems with Stone's Throw is that the atmosphere is extremely hipster, overly priced, and odd atmosphere all together. I look at Stones Throw as almost a place people who think they have money go, but in reality, they don't. Then again, maybe they do. For 2 coffees and a slice of cake, I paid 23 dollars. The coffees were nothing special whatsoever! Don't get me wrong, the beautiful art the 1 worker put into the cups with the cream or whatever goes in was spectacular. Unfortunately, it is not spectacular enough for me to justify 23 dollars. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and seemed to love their jobs. However, when it came to hospitality, I had to put my own mug in a bus pan. Unacceptable, in my opinion, especially after paying 23 dollars. All in all try it out if it's your first time. Make sure to pack lots of cash or bring daddy's credit card because it's not cheap. Flavor of coffee isn't that great either. And if you have the same views as me about this place, well, maybe it's time to just throw the stone in the other direction. I...
Read moreTHE GOOD:
Love their coffee and teas. Excellent flavour and is exactly what I want. Food is pretty good, I had their cinnamon bun muffin with icing, which was delicious!
The general vibes of the cafe are also quite nice, it has a bit of a clutter-core aesthetic, and the colours make it nice and comfy.
They also have board games you can play if you bring groups, which is really cool;
THE NOT SO GOOD:
Its a bit cramped in there, especially if you have 3 or more people coming with you, often making it a hassle to get up. Its a symptom of their location for sure, because they can only do so much, so it is what it is for this one.
It gets quite loud at peak hours, and the resulting cacophony of every conversation plus the espresso machine can make it hard to exist there sometimes. Investment in a bit of sound-deadening would be nice!
Its pricey. Its definitely more value per dollar than Starbucks, but it's still a hefty price tag for certain items, especially the food. Its a bit more of a pain when you take into account that the cafe is right next door the the university, and their primary demographic is students, who are NOTORIOUSLY broke.
OVERALL:
While there are a few issues, Stones Throw is a wonderful little cafe nestled right next to the university, and is a great spot to relax, socialize and study(If you have noise-cancelling headphones) over a good cup of coffee. There's definitely room for improvement, and if the big issues were fixed, this cafe would be a perfect go-to spot for pretty...
Read moreI’ve been to Stone’s Throw many times in the past and always been happy with the service and my orders, and loved being able to support local. However, I had not been there since the pandemic until this week. After ordering, I noticed the papers hung up indicating that there had been a potential exposure there less than two weeks ago. None of the staff were wearing masks and had been on both sides of the counter throughout the 10-15min I was inside. I could see into the kitchen while waiting for my food and did not see anyone wash their hands during this time, as well as saw a piece of cheese fall in the microwave and get thrown back on. I ended up not eating my food because it made me incredibly anxious after seeing it being prepared with hands that hadn’t been washed directly before, no masks, and parts of the food falling on the microwave. In regular times seeing this would make me uncomfortable however in the middle of a pandemic, especially after a potential exposure at the location, I would expect more precautions.
Edit I appreciate the response from the business, their transparency about the potential exposure, and that they are doing their best to follow protocols, however this does not change what I saw during my time there (employees moving between behind the counter and the regular eating area without masks, and kitchen staff getting materials from over the customer side of the counter and going back into the kitchen and continuing work without washing their...
