Tami’s Taters – Classic Poutine from a Roadside Staple

You’ve seen these before—the county fair–style booths parked near gas stations or empty lots, with a steady stream of regulars who clearly know something. Tami’s Taters fits that mold perfectly. I’ve driven by more than once and finally stopped in. No regrets.

I went straight for the classic poutine. A small order is anything but small—this was a full meal, hot, salty, and exactly what you want from a place like this. The fries held up under the rich brown gravy, and the cheese curds were generous and squeaky. Add a cold Dad’s Root Beer and it’s a full-on Canadian roadside dinner.

There’s a full menu of burgers, dogs, and onion rings if you’re the type to skip the potatoes (but why would you?). Friendly service, fair prices, and the kind of local spot that earns its reputation by showing up every day.

Since 2023, I have visited many chip trucks/cabins in the Ottawa valley with mixed results regarding the various establishments' quality and/or price. In July 2025, I decided to lunch at Tami's Taters chip cabin on a recommendation from acquaintances in Renfrew. Upon tucking into my ordered "jumbo hotdog combo", what impressed me was the quality and quantity of the meal. In particular, the chips were outstanding and easily competes taste/price-wise with the best chips offered elsewhere in the region. In fact, my lunch was so delicious that I convinced my wife to return with me later in the afternoon for an enjoyable supper (yes, I had chips twice in one day)!
