Our usual go-to Chinese food has been Good Buddy Restaurant on 23 ave. Since we did not feel like driving all the way there for a pick up, we tried Kings Garden Chinese Restaurant. A small restaurant in the strip mall. We ordered the Happy Family dinner for 4. Includes spring rolls, wor wonton soup, chicken fried rice, and 4 items. We order Chicken Chow Mein, Chow Fan noodles, garlic Gai Lan veggies and Ginger beef. Portions are pretty good. Fried rice is decent because a fair amount of chicken /peas in it. Some places don’t even put peas and chicken in it. Chow mein was excellent with good amount of veggies. Just the right amount of sauce. Ginger beef is awesome. Gai Lan was great too. Surprisingly, the wor won ton were decent size PLUS veggies in the broth. We still had leftovers. We are a family of four and my husband and adult kids can eat a lot. I phoned in for my order and got 10% off for pick up plus 4 free Vietnamese rolls! Coupon on the website. Restaurant is small. I must say, we will definitely use Kings Garden again. We have noticed Good Buddy prices are increasing and sometimes they are slow and rude. I phoned at 5:10 and picked up our food at 5:30. The only complaint is that I think I got a speeding ticket on the way there. Lol. I was going 50 km and I think it’s only 40 km along Riverbend road by the school. But still was worth writing this review. Note- my dad use to be a cook for western Chinese fast food (back in the day) and I think he would like...
Read moreThe one saving grace that gives this restaurant one star is that given the price, the portions are large. The food itself is of the hit and miss quality that you see in food court fast food joints, not of supposedly established restaurants with multiple 5-star reviews. We ordered chicken balls that were very overcooked, and they managed to master the art of burning schezwan beef so well that the flavor is unpalatable while still keeping the outside soft enough that it gives a mushy texture. The deep fried tofu was slimy and the schezwan shrimp was soggy, with a bonus unidentifiable jelly/mush substance included in the pile of grease-soaked veggies. Everything was cold - but in their defense we did order in so I attribute the temperature to travel time. I've ordered from here a few times before but this is the last time we will be giving our business. You're much better off going to a real restaurant rather than spending $70 for 4 dishes that your toilet will regret for weeks to come. King's Garden deserves every star I give. I recommend this "restaurant" if you are really drunk and won't know the difference between food poisoning and...
Read moreCannot believe I paid $60 for some ingredients. I went to pick up a dinner for 2 with a Shanghai noodle added. The fried rice, was plain steamed rice with some peas and a couple niblets of dried corn. Completely tasteless as steamed rice is. The plain chop suey was also flavorless, with no onion or celery to be seen. The extremely dried out ginger beef, marked on menu as spicy, had zero ginger or sauce. The soup was also tasteless with only wonton having flavor. I had to get out onion garlic celery and ginger to add to it, and carrot and some other seasoning to make it edible. No I made it as tasty as canadian Chinese food is. Were they out of onion garlic and ginger at the restaurant? Let alone sesame oil? I would rather have frozen ginger beef from Costco than order from here again. I ordered out for the privilege of...
