We used to go to this place quite often (we have been there 3 times in the last month), but lately the service is not only getting poorer due to the lack of experienced personnel as a result of COVID, but now the management is making things even worse. Last night, I recommended the place to my daughter and her boyfriend. The service was delayed as usual (we were there just the night before and this was somewhat expected). However, when the order came, instead of chicken of the day the waitress brought a chicken pizza. Without excusing herself she tried first to convince my daughter's boyfriend to take it saying that the chicken dish will take about 20 minutes to be ready. When he indicated that he wanted what he has ordered, she agreed and left. 45 or so minutes later the dish was still not ready. By then, my daughter and her boyfriend decided that it was too late (the restaurant was about to close in 25 minutes and they did not want to eat in a rush). Yet, when they went to pay for what they had consumed, the manager (a middle aged blond woman who presented herself as the manager) not only did not apolgize for the mishap, but she insisted that they pay for the dish that was not consumed, even if the waitress admitted that she took the wrong order. And the manager tone was very patronizing, an indication that she treats younger people, like my daughter with disrespect, especially when the error was on the service side (this is reverse agism; a customer is a customer regardless of age). You could see this tone that the manager used in her reply to my daughter's review, which led to my decision to post this one, as well. This is really unacceptable and very unprofessional. It is really a new and sad low point for a place that we used to love to go to... I used to recommend this place to many people, but now I am not going to either go there or recommend it...

With a limited menu on Mondays I would assume it would be less difficult for the staff however I had to get up and ask for a menu after waiting ten minutes. Once we did order, they have my son a cup which leaked apple juice all over the table. I asked two of the wait staff a total of 3 times for napkins and we finished our meal without any. I even asked when I went to go pay if they were short staffed as a way to explain the bad service and they said no. I communicated in both French and English so language is not even an excuse. I wish it was better this would could be a gem. ☹️ Updated due to response from establishment: Thank you for the speedy and thoughtful response. I do hope the employees are informed that there is no table service on Mondays in the future. I had specifically asked if I could order from the counter so my son could see the juices/ muffins and was specifically told to take a seat if we were planning on ordering food. I am aware how difficult it is to find staff who can perform basic tasks and I feel for you. I will consider giving Cafe de la Gare another try in the future ( maybe not...
Read moreFirst visit we had the smoked meat pizza and that was one hell of a good pizza. Mom had the spaghetti with smoked meat sauce and she loved it. The server was great and smiling and cared for us. The second visit wasn’t the best. We kindly asked the waitress to take our orders quickly cause we were waiting for the train. She looked completely indifferent and when we tried calling her she looked at us and kept walking. I don’t care if you have multiple personality issues or a rough day or just hate people, respectfully answer them and pretend you love your job just like the rest of the world does.
Food was good again but wasn’t what I asked for because someone missunderstood me. Even though i didn’t get what I asked it was still a good smoked meat sandwich 😁😁
But I very much appreciate the owners presence and her dealing with us afterwards and being kind and friendly. I’d go back knowing the management is serious about this place and I won’t rush them again 😊 all and all beautiful location...
