Patate Depot — Restaurant in Saint-Jérôme

We were returning home for an 1 hour drive but decided to fill the tank first and then, why not.. fill our bellies! As always when we are in a different town, we try to eat somewhere that seems local and this was the feeling we got from Patate Depot! We arrived and the parking was in the back without any signs, and very soon we noticed what seemed to be a.... well, kind of neglected place when it comes to modern maintenance.

Outside there were cracked and wet flooring, crooked steps and blurry windows. From afar, you would think it could be abandoned. So much so that they needed papers written "Open", so that people would know.

On the main entry door, another paper read "push stronger". Furniture seemed old and broken, and the decor seemed like a time machine to the 80s! Have we stepped into a DeLorean, doc?

So, after all this.. why 5 stars? Is that an error? Well, first of all, we quite liked the food. Both the hamburger and the poutine were quite good for this kind of place. And the prices... well, they were ok! On the plus side, you can drink as much soda as you want, which is always great, although the cup was quite small, which merited constant trips to the soda machine and it seemed to have a bit too much water and not as much gas. But hey, its free refill, so you can't complain!

Secondly: If many other places had their physical spaces in this state of disregard, it would not be good... But I dont know.. At this place its almost felt like it gave it character! Like it was a real place and not just a new joint that opened on the soaring delivery post pandemic culture.

N'y aller pas ! Endroit sale , j'ai vu un employé enlevé son tablier tout sale de fin de journée et nettoyer le bac à frites AVEC arkkkk vendredi dernier vers 19h ! Jeté un oeil derrière le comptoir ...degeulasse. Les employés vont fumer et revienne cuisiner sans se laver les mains ... Proprio à casquette , petit et au teint basané qui est extrêmement désagréable avec moi depuis les 2-3 dernières fois j'y ai été ! Regard hautain , pas de sourire et quand il y en a un il est narquois ...Depuis la fois que je l'ai vu mettre des champignons dans ma viande à sous marin apres lui avoir dit ( ce que je voulais dedans pourtant à lui directement 4 minutes avant ) quand je lui ai mentionné que malheureusement je n'en voulais pas dedans et que j'y étais allergique ,il m'a regardé tout croche comme si c'était de ma faute !! Ensuite il a remis de la viande sur la plaque en soupirant et il a ri sarcastiquement et demandé si je voulais de la vinaigrette ou si j'y étais allergique aussi ?! Legit que j'avais juste le goût de reprendre mon pourboire dans le petit pot a côté de la caisse ! Mauvaises journées , peut être mais innaceptable envers un client ! Je le sais Ça fais 20 ans je travaille dans le public et dans la restauration !! On peut juste payer comptant rendu en 2019 c'est vraiment pas pratique ! Aussi roulement d'employés suspect , jamais les mêmes qui travaillent à part le patron a casquette mentionné précédemment et une gentille dame avec un accent anglais ! Les conditions de travail doivent être épouvantables pour que personne ne veut rester y travailler .... plus jamais moi , je vais aller dépenser ailleurs des restos de ce genre c pas ça qui manque dans le coin ! Great local place for classic Canadian fast food. The poutine is the best classic taste, excellent cheese, sauce, and fries. Tried the Italian poutine and it's delicious too. This place only takes cash, but they have an ATM inside.
