Went to this spot Jan 21, after a long day of travel/ work. Was pretty quiet in there, they had some specials on wine and the steak. The waitress told me that because they were out of steak all entrees were $25.00. When she rang me up however I was charged full price for the chicken entree. ($31 + tax) The food was incredible, the cooks/chef did an amazing job on everything chicken cooked to perfection and, sauce was amazing and not too salty. Great balance overall. Really enjoyable. A large group of people came in - and while the restaurant was nearly empty, they sat beside me, and were SUPER LOUD. They came in about halfway through my meal, so not easy to change tables etc. The server also kind of disappeared and was talking to the table beside me for a long while. Which happens on slow nights. They did provide me with a discount on the wine, maybe it was service related? Maybe it was to counteract the full price for the meal I was charged versus 25.00… uncertain and I didn’t ask. Again good quality great food, service a bit off this happens hence the 4/5. Atmosphere would have been 5/5 was a super cute spot and would return. Just was unfortunate out of all of the tables in the restaurant they were sat next to me. And were loud and at times vulgar with personal stories that shouldn’t be shared out loud in public.

Had a reservation booked for 7:30 for two people and was promptly tended to and given a large booth which was quite nice! Started off with the Spinach Dip which was one of the best I’ve ever had. The parmesan coated dippers were out of this world! My entree was the Buttermilk-Fried Chicken Tacos with a large Caesar salad. I’ll start with the Caesar salad because this is one of the reasons I had to knock the score to a four instead of a five. I would have preferred the dressing to be mixed in with the salad beforehand but that may be a personal preference! I find it’s difficult to mix a salad on an open plate without making the table a part of the dinner plate. I ate lots of pieces of plain lettuce which turned me off to it a bit. The chicken tacos were okay but nothing fantastic, the chicken was slightly over-cooked. Our server was fantastic and visited our table often even though it was a full house. They also had non-alcoholic beer options to choose from which I’ll always give bonus points for. We were tucked into a back corner so we could hear each other very well which made for a great atmosphere! The front patio was also still open if you wanted to hangout out front! Overall a good evening!

Monday night solo visit and sat at the bar. Restaurant/pub has a busy feel to it and somewhat noisy background in a good way, it has great atmosphere and energy. Nice décor and variety of seating arrangements inside for singles, couples, or larger groups. Server was Chelsea. She is certainly one of the best food service industry workers I have met in my many years of work and leisure travel, they do not get any better than her. Engaging and energetic personality and provides top level service. A real asset for C&K. Ordered a bowl of their soup special which was a steak/stew type of soup. Lots of beef and vegetables in this and it tasted so good on a cold winter evening. One of the better soups I have had, really enjoyed it. Also, wing night so ordered some bbq sauced wings and they were excellent. And washed this meal down with a couple Hendrick's. Been here multiple times before and had steak specials, shepherd's pie, tacos, and various other menu items. Always really enjoy my meals here. If you are making a visit to SJ, add Cask and Kettle to your restaurant visit list. There is a great food scene in the SJ uptown area and C&K ranks at the top with the best of them.

This is a hard rating for me as it is one of my favorite places for food and beer (in the top 3 best veggie burgers in town in my books!). If you had asked me a few months ago, I would have given at least 5 stars. Live entertainment is hit or miss sometimes really good, sometimes they would have been better off with the radio. This is not the reason for my 3 star rating though. One evening around 10pm, I came in with a few friends from out of town to show them one of my favorite spots and to have a few drinks (there were 5 of us). It was pretty quiet, only a few people there and one server by the look of. He came over asked if we were ready and we said that we just started to look at the menu and asked for a few minutes. He agreed and said he would be back. Myself and a friend went to the washroom right after as we only had 1 menu and the 3 others on the other side of the table were viewing. We returned to the table a few mins later and were able to look at the menu to pick a beer. He comes over the 2nd time (about 5-10 mins have passed at this point) and asked if we were ready. He seemed like he was in a hurry to get our order either because he preferred to speak with his friends at the bar or because he wanted to get off work (that didnt appear to be happeneing anytime soon due to business hours and beacuse other people were still there). Anyway, he asked if we were ready and I replied "sorry, we just got to look at the menu now, can we have just another couple mins?". He replied "ok, ill come back in (he paused) about a half hour then" with a condescending smile and turned around and walked back to the bar. At that moment I advised my friends that we were not staying and would go somewhere else that wanted our business and wouldnt be rude. There are other choices and it wasnt worth staying with someone who would act like this. That is my rant and reason for the 3 stars versus 4 or 5. That said, I have been back after this instance purely for the food but I used to visit at least once every 1-2 weeks. My frequency is much less now, maybe once every 2 months as a result of this incident. If you are wondering, the rude server is still there. Luckily, I have not had him as my...

The food, choice of beer and atmosphere were nice, but sadly some of the worst service I have ever had let it all down.

Waited to be seated at the front and wasn't greeted or told someone would be along shortly by any of the passing servers whilst I waited.

Once seated at the bar I waited to be served which took longer than is acceptable whilst 3 people were behind the bar putting clean glassware away.

I got served and had a beer and the Irish poutine. The food took a long while but I was in no rush, but when it was delivered to the table I had no cutlery, and the runner left without realising.

Once I had finished I was waiting for service from the two bartenders behind the bar who were talking to each other and free, I tried to make eye contact to no avail, after looking in their direction for quite some time one finally turned to me and in a rude tone yelled across the bar "do you want something?" I just wanted to pay and leave but I got the feeling they thought I was after something else, none the less, I felt very unwelcome.

In over a year living in Canada it's the first time I haven't tipped, I tip regardless if the food and/or service is bad, but I draw the line when somebody...
