Traveling through Shawinigan, we were looking for a pub to grab a quality beer and a meal in the afternoon. The first thought was the Trou du Diable pub because of its reputation, but we tried something else hoping to catch a smaller place with a more original menu. And WHAT A SURPRISE!
The menu was so amazing we wanted to get everything on it. I settled for the Beef Tartare and my friend went for the Maple Trout Poke Bowl. Aie aie aie! You know that feeling when you are bouncing of joy, on your chair, because of an amazing gastronomical experience? We we both so happy!
Add to that, the highly superior service by one of the owner who took time to detail all the additional love that was included in every dish, a taster of their recommended drink and just mere joy to share a moment altogether, this place is an instant coup-de-coeur, and I will not miss it anytime I ride by Shawinigan from Quebec to Montreal or back.
It's not just the amazing food or drinks that make this place worth the detour, it's the music, the mood, the "we're all friends" here mood and the actual care, from every employee, that made this a memorable moment, worth writing a review for...because no I don't often write reviews, but those people took extra care of us, and they deserve some of my time as well, as a thank you for they amazingness.

Après avoir lu tout les commentaires positifs à propos du restaurant, j'avais de fortes attentes pour la qualité du repas et du service mais j'ai été extrêmement déçu.
Nous avions réservé pour un groupe de 8 pour 19h30, la chaleur étouffante à l'intérieur du restaurant nous a encouragé à s'installer sur la terrasse. (Pas d'air clim dans un restaurant en 2023!? Les cuisiniers doivent mourir de chaleur en cuisine!!).
Une fois assis, nous avons attendu 30 mins pour la première commande (apéritifs/boissons) et un autre 30 mins pour les recevoir.
15 minutes plus tard, on vient prendre commande des menus (potages et une entrée de Nachos). Il a fallu attendre un autre 30 minutes pour recevoir de simples soupes et une assiette de Nachos brulée, très fade. Le potage était bien mais portion vraiment minuscule.
Un autre 20 mins plus tard, on nous signale qu'il ne reste plus de viande à burger donc ceux ci devront changer de plat.. Ce fût assez pour leur couper l'appétit et demander l'addition.
20 minutes plus tard, nous recevons nos menus (deux poutines et 3 MAC n CHEESE). Les poutines étaient bonnes mais ne valent pas 23$ chaque, surtout compte tenu de la portion. La goute d'eau qui fait déborder le vase, les MAC n CHEESE étaient inmanageable, extrêmement fade, sans gout et texture douteuse. Du Kraft Diner manqué serait beaucoup plus appétissant (et j'ai des standards vraiment très bas pour des pâtes).
Nous avons demandé la facture et nous sommes partis très déçus et frustrés par l'expérience, de plus que les menus ne sont pas particulièrement abordables pour ce qui est servi.
Même pendant les heures de pointe, la plupart des resto bar populaires arrivent à servir les clients dans un délai respectable mais ici ce n'était pas le cas. À éviter...

Glad to see a Bistro like this in Shawi. Me and my buddies grew up in the region, but left years ago and got pleasantly surprised by the food and ambiance offered at Le Chenapan. We shared a massive Nachos that stuffed us even before receiving our mains 😝 We were all happy with the beef burger, farfalles and chicken burger we got.
