4⭐️ - 07/02/2023 - Went here during my visit to Aylmer because of a recommendation. The employees were attentive and fast at working, greeted us right when we entered and got us a table right away. When serving the food, they forgot which plate had which fish so there was a little misunderstanding there. In the end I am not quite confident we all got the fish we ordered since the waiter himself was confused as well. Aside from that, we ordered the Homemade Fish Chowder, Onion Rings, Calamari, Haddock and Chips, and the Halibut Fish Crispies. Homemade Fish Chowder - Delicious, I tasted that hint of fish flavour inside the creamy chowder. Exactly how I would like my fish chowder. Onion Rings - Good and crispy, how one would expect onion rings to be like. Calamari - Meh, the portion stated that it could serve 2, however from the picture I posted, it doesn’t seem to be the case. Barely enough to serve one of us. Haddock and Chips - Good, the fish was filling but the fries weren’t crispy, overall still delicious. The coleslaw also tasted good along with the entire meal. Halibut Fish Crispies - Good, the fish was decent but the fries weren’t crispy. This also came with coleslaw which helped put together the entire meal. Overall the experience here was pleasant, I do recommend coming here if you are ever nearby!

I've been for breakfast on several occasions. Great value, excellent service and a very clean, comfortable restaurant. The breakfast sausage isn't a top choice for me. I think other products could offer better flavor but that's just my opinion. And, for reasons unknown, the kitchen won't let me mix bacon and sausage. It's bacon OR sausage and impossible to get a mix. Overall, a solid breakfast menu and I'll keep going back. Great coffee, too... better than other local spots. Update: The Breakast Skillet is excellent. And huge. Enough to share, or ideal for anyone who is REALLY hungry. It's a grilled combo dish with eggs, bacon, cheese, potato, mushrooms, onion and green pepper all presented in a cast iron skillet with toast on the side. WOW!!

We had an outstanding experience at Halibut House in St Thomas. Their cod and haddock is fresh and scrumptious. The fries are chipwagon good. The salads and greens were very fresh and crisp. The place was immaculate. There were 8 customers and the hostess we had was absolutely charming and everyone looked satisfied. You really can't get better fish and chips or service anywhere. If you haven't had a chance to experience the Halibut House. Take a pilgrimage to one the best fish and chip places in town, the Halibut House..I'll bet SpongeBob eats here. Luv Malcom💪😎💛Stay strong St Thomas.

This review is in response to the review about the owner belittling the waitress. First I would like to point out no one at halibut house asked me to write this. I am doing so to shed a little light on the situation. Despite being a social worker and a RN I have also waitresses for years. I started working for the halibut house St Thomas on the grand opening and have worked everyday since. I am the waitress being referred to in the reviews. We have been crazy busy since we opened the door 10 days ago. Last night the wait staff consisted of myself, a girl who had worked one shift and a girl who it was her first day. Let that sink in for a minute. It is not the best situation to start, then times that by ten days of madness. I was doing my best trying to serve my table plus try and make sure the others were taken care of as well. It is not the two other waitress fault they were doing there best with what had been thrown at them. Unfortunately a few tables were missed or rang in incorrectly and I was trying to get them fixed up. The owner was helping the cooks and had the same waitress asking for this and that. It was a moment of confusion and it was misinterpreted. I admit he lost his cool for a second and I believe most people would have and I walked out. For this I apologize for to the customers, I should have just carried on but 9days straight of craziness I was tired and sensitive. I did come back in after cooling down and the owner was quick to hurry over to me and apologize which he continued to do so a few times. That being said Jason is a very kind person to work for and he cares about his guests and about his staff. We had to stop serving breakfast for now until we can get the staffed hired and trained. So to those who has had less then a positive experience I hope you will give us another try when things settle down and for those who are going to try us please we are all new and are having some growing pains but we want you to have a great experience with us so don’t be afraid to grab me or any other staff if something is not right. We want you to leave happy as Jason told me the first day I started there. I have tried many dishes since I started and all of them have been delicious. Battered mushrooms are the best I have ever had! Everyone is under a lot of pressure and especially Jason since we pile everything on him but the bottom line is he is wonderful person and boss and I am ok and we will be ok. Hope to see you back cause I’m sure...

Long await fish and chip place. Went in a few days ago. The place was hopping. Waited at door for a few minutes to be seated, a girl behind the counter who was busy doing take out glanced up and greeted me with a smile, excused herself for a second and hurried over to seat us. Sat us in a booth told a waitress we were there and went back to her post. Few minutes past and all the server seem to go to the other tables but not us. The same girl who we came to know as Maryanne popped back over and asked us if we have been helped. When we said no she was quick to add that she would be happy to do so. Took out drink order and after she told us that they were licensed we got a beer and a glass of wine. She returned quickly to us with the drinks both which were cold. She told us about the special which we had ..haddock and chips with coleslaw for 11 dollars. !The food came out hot with huge portions. It was delicious, but what really stood out was the staff or rather our waitress. We watched her while we waited for our food. She paused looked around and then flew into action. I guess some of the other staff isn’t that experienced. She had that whole dinning area under control in minutes…plates cleared from tables that were finished, drinks brought, bills given and payments taken. We watched in awe really. We over heard her tell the severs they needed to tighten up their game a bit but not in a demeaning way but rather a pep talk. It seem to have worked because she returned to her very busy take out post and the service we received after was much better. The cherry on top of this experience was when the same girl who helped us came out and was doing one of her checks to see if the tables were be care for seen we were finished. Cleared our plates ask us about the amazing cheesecake but we had no room. Quickly brought us our bill. My eye site really is like many of us when we age not the best. We paid cash and told her to keep the change. After a minute she came back with a smile and handed me 25 dollars. She said I don’t think you meant to tip me this much. We had misread the bill. We are farmers and money sometime is tight. I couldn’t believe she did this. Wow. What an experience. We most definitely will be back. Thank you. Being a farmer I can appreciate hard work and passion for the job. Bravo halibut...

Review update:

They listened to the reviews and changed up their server. My most recent experience was excellent. The server was attentive and kind. She was prompt with dealing with the tables. The food came out quickly, fresh and delicious! It only took a few minutes from once we sat down to get our food brought to the table. Breakfast here is great and an awesome deal. They make the bacon just the right amount of crispy, and home fries are a good texture.

Oldest experience review: The food and the portions were great for the price. That being said, after half an hour of waiting we still didn’t have drinks brought to our table. I had to flag down a server in order to get our beverages. Sat waiting nearly 20 minutes even to have a server come and take our order. Had to also flag down to get a top up of coffee, and we were incorrectly charged on our bill. The one server was attentive when she came out from the kitchen, but the younger woman who was there when we arrived was the one who didn’t take our order for forever, forgot our drinks and never even asked how our meal was. Even though the woman was nice, it’s poor customer service. You always make sure to get your customers beverages, that’s basic service and proper restaurant etiquette. My husband took me here because he had a great experience last week. It’s unfortunate that today wasn’t the same case due to the...
