I’ve gone to field stone for 10 years plus, and it’s definitely not the same as it was. Their indivitual upside down cakes , for example use to be so fresh and gooey , with crunchy edges and lots of fruit, now there much smaller, often dry with minimal fruit , and the crunchy edges are long gone.. The packaged cookies use to be nice and big, but not any more, probably 1/3 smaller by weight , but higher priced disappointing! Packaged items are not dated, so although Some items sell well , like the cookies, other items could sit there for many many days with no way of telling until you purchase them and get home. And although many of their sweets behind the glass show case sell well, other items you know sit there for many days or more. I still go there, as there breads and scones are fresh, only not as as often. I don’t mind paying more for quality, but don’t cut corners, and bakery items should be fresh, The ownership I’m sure has changed over the years, and that’s may the biggest factor. Still worth going too, just not the same. This is one honest...
Read moreMy partner, ordered a strawberry rhubarb pie for pickup this morning. The woman working told him that the pie wouldn't be done for another 15 to 30 mins because the oven was not working or had a glitch. The pie was for a birthday and it was not cooked through at all, and should have not been sold to us given the quality. We were extremely disappointed. The pie crust was still gummy and tasted like raw dough, and far from any type of flakiness. Uncooked dough when consumed, could put someone at risk for foodborne illness. Being a bakery, you would think they would have known better not to sell uncooked or partially cooked products to clients. The rhubarb was still very crunchy, sour and the filling was extremely watery and lacked any hint of strawberries. It should have been renamed as "rhubarb pie". We have ordered the apple pie, peach pie, bumbleberry pie, quiche lorraine and the tortiere from fieldstones before and we had never had a problem with their products. I emailed them and messaged them on Instagram, awaiting...
Read moreStopped here right before crossing the border and picked up a loaf of country bread, 2 cheese rolls, an oatmeal cookie and a piece of chocolate peanut butter cake. Short story: Definitely come here!
The flavor of the country bread had a true sourdough kick, which was delicious. The only "downside" was that we had it sliced and because it's so fresh, it hadn't cooled down enough so when we unpacked it later to make a sandwich, the remaining steam inside made the slices stick together and a tiny bit gummy. (Reason #1 why you need to wait before digging into bread you've just baked - hard to do and easy to forget!) So words of wisdom: just take it home and slice it at home when ready to eat.
The cookie had a nice caramely flavor and chewy texture and the cake was amazing! Not too sweet, lots of good chocolate and peanut butter flavor!
The cheese rolls were good, but a little dry, so we'd probably skip that next time, but everything else made up for it. Can't wait to...
