I am writing this review after trying various items over 3 visits. It is all great when it's mentioned that the food has no artificial colors, flavors or GMO products in their food. But if the flavor quotient doesn't hit the mark, there is absolutely no point in these "healthy" taglines. I mean, our mothers and family members have been cooking food at home that rarely contains such unhealthy ingredients, yet the flavor is never compromised. If they want to build their brand, expand, get the word of mouth out there and make us come again and again, the flavor cannot be compromised no matter what you do. And that's what's missing here
In the name of trying to provide something "new", "modern", or a unique take on certain traditional or popular items, this restaurant has somewhat got stuck in a confusion. An identity crisis per se. Starting from the name "A"pple Spice, which the "A" borrowing from the Tamil alphabet, there is no connection with the name and the menu what so ever. The confusion starts here. Apple spice gives the idea that it might be somewhat of a dessert place, but its Tamil/Lankan food which supposedly is offered with a modern take. I have tried the Cutlets, Veg Patties, Veg Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice, Kothu Rotti and their fries. Except the cutlets which were pretty good and the fries tasting decent, the rest of the items were a major let down for me. There is no modernity nor innovation no flavor profile. It's just this mis-mash that continues throughout the food that makes it unappealing, quite confusing and aloof.
The restaurant also seems to provide Indian sweets (not sure why when much better quality items can be found at Indian stores) and cakes (maybe a homage to the name?). Again there is a lot going on yet nothing at all at the some time.
My humble request is to bring a focus, cut the confusion, let the traditional and popular items be as it is, but offer them well, with great flavor, still maintaining your healthy motto and that itself is a big win for you guys. There not a Tamil restaurant out there who consistently provides good quality, flavorful food. Just fulfilling that gap itself will take you places. Just let go of the unnecessary...
Read moreMany of our friends order from Applespice so we decided to give them a try. We've ordered from Applespice on 3 different occasions. 1st time was back in 2021 - we ordered the seafood pasta. We ordered it online and when we went to pick up the food we were told to wait 10 more minutes which turned into another 10 minutes (total of 20 minutes extra). We brought the food home to eat and it was so salty to the point where we could not finish the pasta. We called the store and let them know that the pasta was way too salty. Last month, we went in person to order the pasta again as it was in the late afternoon. After placing our order, we were told that our food will be ready in 30 minutes which was fine. We came to pick it up and were told to wait another 20 minutes. The pasta this time was much better compared to the first time we ordered. Last weekend, we had guests over so we wanted to try the mutton kothu and chilli chicken kothu so we placed an order online. In the notes, we had mentioned about the salt level and to ensure that there isn't a lot of salt in our food. We got a phone call regarding the note and that we just wanted to make sure that the food isn't super salty like how it was before when we did an online order. We went to pick up the food only for them to have 2/3 kothu rotis ready. We were told to wait again for 20 minutes so they can make the 3rd kothu roti that we ordered. The person behind us in line also did an online order and they too were told to wait as well. Once again we bring the food home to eat it and find out that it's very salty. Very disappointed with the wait times EVEN after placing online order AHEAD of time and the salt levels in the food. Not sure if we'll order from here again.
**UPDATE: They still have to work on the saltiness of their food. Once again we left in the notes asking them to keep an eye on the amount of salt they put and one of the pastas...
Read moreBEST OF BEST👌👌👌👌💟 I have been searching for a tasty briyani all over Toronto for the past 9 months since I entered Canada. I found this on door dash . And with a slight hesitation ordered chicken briyani. After receiving the order it was a big shock to see large quantity that too with boiled egg. I have to talk about the taste. Omg OMG🤤🤤🤤 where u have been these many days. Literally was at the peak of excitement after tasting it. The best in the city. I really have to thank the chef for giving me such a delicious briyani after months. And when it comes to the price guys really should thank you as it looks like a social service to the customers,Caz for this low price you are not compromising on the quantity of food and quality of meat . Last time I ordered chicken and shrimp fried rice with mutton roll. Also their chicken nuggets is good. Completely satisfied. For such a low price for briyani there is also a boiled egg and raita and a gravy. By this way I hope u would pass my message to ur chef. You guys deserves a recognition. Thank you so much. HIGHLY...
