Aunty Ems Deli & Coffee — Restaurant in Toronto

I’ve come to Aunty Em’s several times now with my vegan wife and we’ve tried so hard to love it more than we do, but it’s just been ok.

The first time we came upon Aunty Em’s by chance and we ordered the crunch wrap and the chicken wrap, both were delicious. We thought we had found our new go to.

In the 3 or 4 visits since then, we have found everything to be just a little lacking. Not sure if a new cook joined or something, but all the food just lacks flavor. Honestly, a little salt and seasoning would easily take this from a 3* to a 4* / 5*.

Focusing on their Friday offering of pizzas: we ordered 2 pizza’s the Big Mac and the special of the week (Mediterranean). The Big Mac was delicious, could have used a bit more vegan meat but honestly I loved it, no complaints. However, the special pizza, which cost extra, was incredibly disappointing. The Mediterranean was supposed to have black olives, tomatoes and feta. There was barely any feta so the whole thing was more of a tomato pizza, yet somehow more surprising was the lack of black olives which is a relatively inexpensive ingredient (and again, a severe lack of seasoning).

I haven’t given up just yet, I will definitely be returning in the hopes that the flavor comes back. If the salt and seasoning suddenly show up I would definitely...

All of their food is delicious and the staff are super friendly! We particularly love their sausage rolls and breakfast sandwiches. However, I'm not sure if Ubereats is the best service to use. I've spend close to an hour trying to order through the link from their website and Ubereats keeps asking me to log in, and each time I do that, it erased my entire order and I had to start from scratch. Not wanting to use the direct Ubereats site to reduce the costs to Aunty Em's, I kept trying to go back to their storefront Ubereats. Again, encountered issues of unclickable buttons to order and very slow loading (when it was through the direct Ubereats site, it was fast, so I'm not sure if Ubereats is doing this deliberately to push users to use their direct site?). Finally, it appeared that my order did go through, but I never received an emailed receipt or any text notifications to confirm my order. I see that my credit card was charged. I tried calling Aunty Em's a few times, but I gather they are busy preparing more yummy food and the "help" button on the Ubereats page keeps giving an "error" message, so no help at all. This was a very frustrating experience and I will hesitate to order online again. Will update later to see if my order...

Still love the Cubano, always need to grab a coffee. All the love is still there.

But the other stuff I love? The staff. All sweethearts, all the time. Just wonderful, kind people. It's a small operation, but they do incredible work, and go above and beyond to make people happy.

My partner and I got married a few months ago, and Em's catered. It was a hit, so much so that the non-vegan catering we got went largely untouched. This surprised me since a lot of my friends and family are not ones to try vegan items. It only sucked because I was looking forward to eating the leftovers, which wound up being not much.

Lastly, if ever they run out of something before I get there (again, small business with devoted customers so it's to be expected), do I have a shitfit and leave a bad review? No, because that's a me problem. Just call...
