Good spot for yummy Sri Lankan food. I'm from Ottawa and whenever I visit Toronto I often try to grab takeout from a Sri Lankan/Bengali/Indian restaurant, depending on what's closest. I decided to grab Nantha's on my way back to Ottawa and am happy I did!

I ordered a large chicken biryani, mutton biryani, fried fish and mutton rolls which all came to little over $30. Portions are great and food tastes delicious. Flavour is well done, and both biryanis had a nice level of spiciness to them (I should include that I love spicy food). I really liked the crunchiness of the mutton rolls, but found the filling a little underwhelming compared to others I've had. I wasn't a fan of the fish, found it overdone and not particularly flavourful.

Food held well on the drive from Toronto to Ottawa, still lukewarm in fact. It wasn't particularly busy at the time I went, but I had to wait little while for the biryanis as they made it by request. In the end, I'd return to grab food from here again, particularly because the pricepoint, portions and taste are great. Definitely give this...

Use to be alright when they first opened. Owner is very rude now compare to his first day. Kestrel should have stayed in this area like it always was.

Owner response means nothing. They told me to come in for a refund without providing a receipt in my bag. Told them I never got the receipt to begin with and I live far, he yelled and lied, had me waiting 30 mins in the store, showed them my purchase on credit card and he still did not honour their word. Now for some reason he magically knows me and my date of purchase, how ironic.

FYI, if I was in your position , which I hope never to be based on how you acted and the information your staff provided, I would of provided what I said over the phone and not waste peoples time. I remember when you first open, you have a total different attitude now, so don’t make it seem like this is a customer or my fault. Learn better business practices and follow what you say or what your staff say.

Will be disputing the charges on credit card since you failed to do what you said as a business owner and...

I guess prices of everything has gone up every where.

Food: 4 | Service: 3 | Atmosphere: 3

Recommended dishes: Chicken & Mutton Kothu, vegetable Briyani, Onion Roti

Seating Options: It’s a takeout only at this location

Vegetarian options: Available

Kid-friendliness: It's a kids friendly

Parking options: Free parking

Dietary restrictions: They can make your order based on dietary restrictions

Not bad Food, food price is responsible , everything has gone up as a small business what can’t they do except to continue to increase their price as well. Must try their fish patties and veg Briyani. Noodles used to be good but now days noodles are almost plan, hardly no meat or vegetables in it. So something to think about. Pls try to keep the quality of the food don’t cut back on quality and quantity. Had a very bad experience with string hoppers not too long ago. Double check it before taking it. I do know they don’t make the string hoppers at the location so just be cautious. Customer service could be...

I’ll start off by saying the food here is good. I have only been disappointed with the lack of accuracy to orders and attention to customers and service. This place would get 5 stars but the people working at front need to be replaced or trained better. If I’m going to a “ Tamil “ take out place I don’t see why we can’t order in our native language. Every time I speak in Tamil I get a response in English. This isn’t even the main issue. Whenever I go and ask for a custom order such as extra onions. They don’t ever follow it. They’ll forget it and then throw it on top and charge me for a few pieces. If that’s the case I might as well just go to a grocery store and buy an onion and put it myself. What I recommend to the store. Train your employees with better order accuracy. Servers to speak Tamil when the person also is speaking Tamil. It’s our language and there should be no reason not to speak it. Aside from that keep up the great food.

I ordered Shrimp Biryani on Sunday, and when I reheated and started eating it today, I found a hard shell-like object in the food it felt like a stone. This is the first time something like this has happened, and it was extremely shocking and dangerous. What if someone had swallowed it? It could have caused serious harm. I called the store immediately, and the only response I got was a casual sorry from the cashier. That’s unacceptable. This is not a small mistake, and a simple sorry doesn’t fix it. I expected better handling of the situation. This is a serious quality control issue, and I really hope the management takes action. If this review gets removed without a proper response, I will not hesitate to take this forward. Food safety is not a joke.
