Calling all Thai lovers, this is a must try if you’re in the North York area. This newly opened restaurant is a family run spot that serves up amazingly delicious home cooked Thai food. I came by to check out this place a few days after their grand opening and all I can say is wow. Chef joe, his fiancé Lisa, and chef Francis are super friendly who despite being super busy preparing take out orders, took the time to chat to get to know us better. Really mom and pop shop vibe as if you were going to their house for dinner. We left this homey restaurant with our belly’s so full. We ordered the street style beef pad Thai, chicken phat kaphrao, mango salad, and mango sticky rice. Everything we order was so good! I would strongly suggest the pad Thai. The flavour would be on par with Pai downtown. However, the beef was a bit chewy but still really good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the flavour had a really nice balance between sweet and sour. Highly recommended. I’ve never had holy basil before and to be honest, had no idea what it was. Gave it a shot since the restaurant is named after this dish. Definitely did not disappoint at all. It’s a rice stir fry with chicken and it added a nice texture and sauce to the rice. I would recommend this as well. If you’re a fan of mango salad, this will knock your socks off. The fish sauce that chef joe uses in this was something that I never had anywhere else. I asked him what he used but he mentioned it was a house special. Check that out, super refreshing. The mango sticky rice was good, although some more mango would have been the cherry on top. The sticky rice had lots of coconut flavour and when mixed with the condensed milk. Unreal. Great way to end off the meal with some dessert. The Thai ice tea and coconut smoothie were so damn good as well. Coconut smoothie was very coconutty with little coconut chunks. The Thai ice tea was really tasty, not too sweet or overpowered by the Thai tea. Thai ice tea is currently 50% off as well, can’t go wrong with that. Looking forward to trying the curries and also the Thai chicken wings the next time I visit (chef joe said this has been the most common besides the pad Thai and holy basil).

2022 April 4.5★ Located on a busy street, there isn't much foot traffic in the evening, so you might miss this restaurant. This is a small restaurant serving Thai foods that will impress you for the most part. Your here because they serve a variety of unique Thai appetizers and dishes that you might not find elsewhere in the city. The store frontage is small. There are two bar stools for dine in available, but currently it's take out only. Taro Fries 6.95$ Crispy outside and fried perfectly with tenderness inside, this comes in several pieces with a side of a yogurt style dipping sauce. Quite good. Cashew Chicken Wings 11.95$ Deep fried and glazed with a spicy sweet sambal style sauce, though there's supposed to be cashews in it. (There were a few pieces in the box). Good. Chicken Stay 9.95$ Four skewers of marinated grilled chicken with a side of peanut sauce. I've had significantly better elsewhere, so while this wasn't bad, I'd pass in the future. Pad See Ew with Chicken option 14.95$ Stir fried thick rice noodles with Chicken and broccoli with a Thai twist. There's some other seasonings and it's peppery. There's fresh peppers in the dish. Very good. Would recommend it as well if you haven't already tried. Thai iced tea 4.25$ Not bad. Pretty standard of the Thai iced tea if you have had it before. Limited Paid Street parking is available in front. Worth checking out.

My boyfriend and I came to the restaurant because we kept seeing the food on social media. We are so happy we did! The environment and aesthetic is beautiful, reminds me of walking into a restaurant in Asia. The workers are all very polite and gave us a genuine greeting when we walked in; when we ordered they clarified with us how spicy the dish could be and made sure if it’s what we wanted. The only downside about the location is that it’s pretty small, if you come during busy hours you might not be able to dine in; luckily for us we were able to find seats

Now about the food; as an appetizer we ordered the chicken wings, and URGH it was so good! It’s similar to a dish I know as “drunken chicken” if anyone is familiar with it. It was enough spice to keep me warm by the end and the chicken was tender and falling off the bone as we took our bites. I usually go to wild wings or St Louis for my wings and Phat Kaphrao wings cannot compare in texture, flavour and spice, so yummy! Good portion size for 2 people; BUT I wish they had wet napkins at the time because we were licking our fingers by the end of it.

For mains; my boyfriend and I ordered the Phat Kaphrao since the restaurant is named after this signature dish, I got the shrimp, and my boyfriend got the beef. I enjoyed the ratio amount of sauce to rice; enough white rice to have a bite into when it got too spicy for me and enough sauce for me to dig into when wanted more flavour on my white rice. The ingredients that go into the sauce is something I’ve only ever had when I’ve visited Asia; particularly is Bali, yes, I understand this is a Thai restaurant I’m just saying it reminds me of Asia.

The shrimp, wasn’t particularly my favourite protein, I’m not too sure what I thought it was missing, but the sauce made up for it. And I mean, this is why we make our partners choose something different because I LOVEDDDD my boyfriends beef LOL! I was digging into his beef like it was my own dish 🤣 BUT nonetheless I ate all my shrimp because again, it was good BUT I’m not sure what it was missing that I thought it needed, maybe more seasoning on the grill? The beef however really took me back to Asia with the flavours it was something I’ve never had in a restaurant in Toronto, and I have a lot of Asian food!

Dessert, we had the mango salad. IT WAS SO GOOD, okay if you’re Asian, you might be familiar with something like this. It reminded me of my childhood when my mom would give me mangos and rice. But as a dessert it came with mangoes, sticky rice, and I forget what the sauce was, perhaps condense milk or condense coconut milk. IT WAS SUCH A YUMMY COMBINATION, and now I’m yelling at you lol! When you eat this you should have every ingredient on your spoon.

Phat Kaphrao is probably one of the Asian restaurants in Toronto that actually taste authentic to the culture and takes you back home to...

I’m usually a tough critic when it comes to my asian cuisine (mainly because I’m asian and grew up eating everything in the Asian culture) but this newly opened Thai restaurant was exceptional (to say the least) and is now my new go to spot. I heard about this restaurant thanks to my client who owns a bakery in the neighbourhood. The dangerous part about this whole thing is I’m from the east end of Scarborough so it’s not exactly anywhere near me. But if you’re reading this for confirmation on whether or not you should try this place out, my answer is that I will gladly drive here anytime I’m in the mood for Thai food and will bring some friends and family when I do.

The quality in the food and preparation was well done. Joe and Lisa are a lovely couple and if you ever want to test their passion for hospitality just ask about what’s on their menu. Excellent service from the moment I walked in until I walked out. They were very welcoming and I had a great time chatting with them that I ended up dining in my take-out! The portions are perfect and the menu has something for everybody. I will be sure to call Joe and Lisa for catering in my next work event. I’m excited for the both of them and I can’t wait to see how their little restaurant evolves.

Ps. If you’re not sure what to order, sip on some Coconut Shake while you browse through their menu. And for starters, make sure you try their Thai Chicken Wings (spicy cashews) you’ll be...
