This is hands down the best burger in all of Toronto. The Rude Dude (basically a double cheeseburger with Rudy sauce) was as close to perfect as can be. The bread was perfectly toasted but soft on the outside and tasted like a potato bun very similar to shake shack's burger buns. The beef patty was made smash style which is in my opinion the ideal way to make burgers. The patties are thin but crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the double is the perfect amount of meat to bun ratio. The lettuce and tomatoes were all fresh and the Rudy sauce was extremely flavorful. My first bite into the burger I was introduced to a burst of flavorful savoriness and creaminess from the delicious American cheese and the sauce itself. The beef tend ads that little bit of crunch and texture with the delicious salty juiciness on the inside. Together with the rest of the ingredients each bite was perfectly proportioned with the amount of meat, cheese, sauce, and condiments. The burger is very reminiscent of a shake shack burger. In fact I would have a hard time trying to differentiate between the two if I didn't know which burger was from where and I had to do it by taste alone. I would say really the only difference is the beef patties are slightly more juicy at shake shack and the sauce has a slight more tanginess at Rudy's. Absolute perfection. I also had the Rudy Mac which was there take on the Big Mac. That was also a delicious burger, although I think the rude dude is far better. The poutine is also quite good with the cheese curds tasting very fresh and the fries being The perfect amount of crispiness and softness. The service was as quick as can be because they start firing up the grill and cooking your patty the moment you order and not a second before so you know when you get your burger it is literally just made. The place on the inside has a hole in the wall vibe which was probably the weakest point. it's not really a place you can go with your friends have a couple burgers and chill like shake shack is, it's more of a place you go to just eat a cheeseburger and leave. Overall I think this is the standard to which other cheeseburgers in Toronto should be measured against and I highly recommend this place to anybody who wants the best cheeseburger in...
Read moreGiving an honest review here, I have seen a lot online about RUDY being the best burger place in the city, I've been meaning to check it out for ages and finally I did last night and I was really excited. I will say this, I turned up at 8:45pm and only realized when I got there they close at 9pm, however, I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, the Fried Chicken was soooo overdone, it tasted really badly burnt, the fries were just below average french fries, nothing to shout about and the gravy tasted like it came from a package or a tin or something, certainly didn't't taste "homemade".
I didn't feel welcome while I was sat there eating, as when she gave me my order she didn't ask if I wanted to eat in or takeaway, just assumed it would be takeaway, she gave me my order and said really quickly "thanks have a great night, goodbye" I then sat down to eat my burnt food and instantly I was getting a bad vibe from them as they were purposefully talking about the close down really loudly, and then only when she saw me gathering up my stuff, half way through my eaten meal to leave, she said "Oh you don't have to leave, we are closing down but you can stay" knowing that I had intentions of leaving, I felt like she only said it to make herself feel better? - The correct way of politely asking someone to leave, is to make them aware that the business closes at 9pm so just to be aware of the time and then politely ask me to leave when they were ready to fully close, I have worked in the industry for years and there's a correct way of asking someone to leave.
Regardless of that particular encounter I was overall really disappointed with the food, it was honestly not that great at all, I certainly would not recommend this to anyone and I would never go back. - Disappointing experience to...
Read moreThe smash burger craze is in full flight in Toronto, and when the mood strikes we’ve found no better place to go than Rudy - specifically their College Street location.
The burgers are consistently, mouth wateringly delicious. Quality beef is seared perfectly to crispy edged, Maillard Reaction scrumptiousness. This is the secret to a great smash burger. The flattening of the meat onto a hot griddle ensures that more meat is in contact with the high heat - creating a browned, charred and toasty flavour. And smashing the meat properly in the first few seconds of contact with the griddle ensures that the juices are locked in, creating that perfect combination of crispy and juicy that makes a good smash burger crave-worthy. And the Rudy smash burger is crave-worthy indeed.
Their burgers are garnished with just the right amount of toppings to complement - but not overwhelm - the perfectly seared meat. We highly recommend that you “tattoo” your burger - as in, add bacon (because bacon makes everything better!). We don’t know where Rudy sources their bacon, but daayyyuuummm it’s fantastic.
Rudy also make a mean chicken burger (The Valentino - as in Rudy Valentino - get it?!? lol), and the fries are scrumptious. We hear that their poutine is off-the-charts good but we can’t vouch for that personally as we’ve not had the poutine - yet! Also from the “We hear it’s great but we haven’t tried it yet” list: pickle chips and milkshakes (we love, love, love that they do only the holy trinity of flavours - chocolate, strawberry and vanilla!). Why haven’t we tried these yet, you may ask? Simple. We’re addicted to the tattooed Big Rudy and straight up fries, and no matter how hard we try to break out of that delicious rut we just haven’t been able to get there. But we’re...
