I don't feel compelled to write a negative review very often. I'll start off with the store itself. Supercoffee is a very nice little shop. There's a fantastic mural on the side of the building that is worth checking out on it's own. Inside, the shop is clean and cozy. One star is for the shop.
The staff, while not entirely knowledgeable, are quite pleasant to deal with. One star is for the staff.
That's where the positive ends.
The coffee is very mild, closer to bland. The espresso is better but not by much. Both are priced higher than their value. Though I haven't tried their made to order offerings, the menu hasn't enticed me to do so. Their cakes and pastries aren't anything special, and are also priced above their value.
The store does however offer a quiet place to sit before going to work. That is, unless the gentleman who works in the evenings isn't singing to the music that he is playing a little too loud. More on him later.
Due to the nature of the location, parking is terrible. They do offer two parking spaces in the back of the building, but due to the busy intersection they are located on - good luck getting in or out of there.
I have been visiting this shop around four to eight times a month for almost a year now. I am not sure why, but the man who works in the evening (I am not sure if he's an owner or a supervisor) has never been nice or welcoming. On many of my visits I've had to wait until he was finished berating the staff for inconsequential things before serving me. My background is in hospitality, so I can forgive an off day or a bad mood. This guy however is consistently dismissive and rude. A hello would be nice. Maybe a thank you once in a while? It's not required every time I buy a coffee but after a couple dozen purchases I wouldn't mind a thank you.
My latest and final visit to this shop was this evening.
The gentleman turned his head and looked at me as I walked in. I approached the counter and saw he was busy cleaning something in the sink. A simple "just a moment" would have sufficed here. Instead he ignored me until he had completed his task. When he turned around, instead of apologizing for the delay, he took this time to berate his staff member about an item that was left on the counter with "are you done with this?? Are you done with this??" in a very disrespectful way. At this point I should have left, as he has now turned an awkward moment into an uncomfortable one. He then took my order without a greeting, and poured me a coffee. He then passed me the debit machine - with nothing programmed into it and turned away to start another task. I said there wasn't anything on the machine, he fixed it with a fair amount of attitude, and that was that. No thank you, no goodbye, only a very rude and dismissive person.
This isn't the first time he has been rude to me, or incredibly unprofessional with his staff in front of a customer. I'm sure my small amount of business won't be missed, nonetheless it is...
Read moreUpdate Review in Response to the Management/Owners Reply: It’s good to know that the washroom was fixed. My review is my perception and experience I had that day, I needed to have a proper wash of my hands prior to having my coffee and croissant. There were at least 6 customers who were complaining about the washroom in an ear shot of everyone. We all just nodded and smiled. The issue about the washroom is controllable. We went around the neighbourhood to find parking and there was non. It was early on the Sunday we went and finally made a decision to park on the banks private lot. I don’t think my review was harsh it was an honest opinion from the perception and experience I had that day. I am an advocate of supporting small businesses and my review is not to hurt but to educate people. I hope for your continued success.
Staff are very friendly and attentive with much selections of savoury and baked goods. Huge almond croissants and proper filling of almond paste. They have sugar free vanilla syrup and lactose free milk. The latte was lukewarm and killed the pleasant drinking moment one needed to be satisfied with having their coffee, also they are not equipped to warm their baked goods only the savoury ones. The ham & cheese croissants are really cheap compared to the usual cafe I go to. The cafe is giving a neighbourhood cafe feel, also has an outdoor patio. There’s no parking, we went across the street and parked at the banks parking lot. Restaurant’s need to have a working washroom for clients and I hope there’s a working washroom for the workers, I am not sure how long the washroom was “OUT OF SERVICE”. It’s unsanitary for clients and staff to not have a proper washroom. I was told by the staff to use the Church’s washroom next door … LOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL … I had ordered from Uber for their croissants but this is the first time I actually came in and will...
Read moreSo disappointed that I even have to write this review....Don't you hate when your fav (not anymore) local coffee shop declines in quality......I've been dreading writing this post but to be completely honest this was the last straw. My go-to drink has been an iced vanilla latte with a double shot, and I almost always (the last 6 times, I am counting - trust) get served a single shot latte in a double cup with extra milk lol...not what I paid for. Today I decided to give the spot another chance, and witnessed the barista pour a single shot in my double cup....AMAZING right....I was actually appalled. I know different baristas have different styles but this was scammy. When I asked if it had two shots of espresso she said "yes"....as someone who's non-confrontational I decided to just let this be the straw that broke the camels back. Very disappointing as this used to be THE best coffee in the Mount Denis and even York-South Weston area, with my sisters and I being very loyal customers but with the service and all, I can no longer be a loyal customer. I hope this reaches the right audience and hopefully we can get back the quality coffee Supercoffee used to have. The coffee is $7 bucks, its actually ridiculous to be...
