The Avenue Restaurant and Lounge - what can I say about this INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT? It truly is the MOST DELICIOUS West Indian Restaurant with the most delightful food my taste buds have ever experienced and the most beautiful part is I truly felt welcomed from the moment I entered. The warm atmosphere and inviting decor set the stage for a fun and amazing evening out with friends. It even has an amazing section for a private party/celebration/event!!
The Avenue’s menu features a wide variety of West Indian dishes, from classic fried rice topped with chicken & pepper shrimp on the side to their famous one of a kind adventurous options like BBQ Chicken and sizzling hot Macaroni Pie. Then came Szechuan Beef with a side of vegetables and Chow Mein noodles - simply to die for. The Lemon chicken was absolutely scrumptious. My friends and I could taste the fresh ingredients and herbs, making each bite ever so delightful and just absolutely delicious 😋
The service was fantastic. Our server was kind, friendly and knowledgeable about the Avenue’s Menu. He was thoughtful and helpful when it came to us choosing the perfect alcohol drinks to pair with our meal. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, with beautiful decor and such inviting soca & calypso music that made it feel like you were on a resort in the West Indies!!
Overall, dining at The Avenue was a treat for the senses and truly felt like an out of country adventure. Each dish brought new flavors to the table, making for a delightful culinary journey and a pure visual delight as the food was not only delicious but beautifully presented. This spot has a cozy charm that draws you in so make sure you visit it!
The experience was satisfying from start to finish that I had to order for my organization’s dinner party a few weeks later and let me tell you, they all wanted to know where I ordered from. Every single one of my colleagues took down the information to The Avenue Restaurant and have already lined up to visit AND have them cater their next event!! The restaurant even accommodated our request for a delicious gluten free meal for one of my colleagues!!! Everything was absolutely sheer perfection!
Finally, I want to especially acknowledge the friendly owner/manager who ensured our experience at my organization’s dinner was top-notch. Brandon, THANK YOU for your attention to detail with our order and every single one of the dishes we ordered!! Everyone was captivated by the presentation of the meal. Each element was arranged artistically, and the taste lived up to the visuals. It was truly impressive!!

Read moreIve heard a lot of people sing praises to this restaurant but i refrained from trying it for fear of disappointment again. Today i bit the bullet and decided to finally give it a try. The decor is quite modern and clean and the restroom is also very clean which i found impressive. But down to business qe offered a beer and OJ and pepper shrimp and shrimp wontons to start. The pepper shrimp was good. Not great but good enjoy to enjoy. Could have been a bit crispier and you should serve it with all the fixings on top. Makes for a much better taste. The wontons were average at best. Presentation was good. Taste was disappointing. For mains we ordered the mixed fried rice and mixed chowmein both with chicken on top. Its an extra 3 or 4 bucks per dish but its usually worth it. The fried rice was ok. Again taste was kinda average. The shrimp were large. We did get 4 of them. But i wasnt satisfied with the cook on it. The rice was bland at best and wouldve been hard to swallow was it not for the delicious hot sauce they had. Sadly we dont go eat out just for hot sauce. The chowmein was actually quite worse than the fried rice. Absolutely bland. No taste whatsoever. The chicken on top of both dishes was quite delicious. Well seasoned well fried with the delicious crunch that you'd expect. AGAIN i was disappointed and felt betrayed by the many 4 and 5 star reviews that i read on google. Its like people have forgotten what good Caribbean chinese food taste like.
ONE THING I WILL SAY TO THE CREDIT OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT is that the service i had here was second to none. I eat 90 percent of my meals out and this was probably the first time i had FLAWLESS service. The waitresses and the lady in charge were all polite friendly and warm and very helpful. I honestly plan on returning just for the service. Ill probably have a few beers and maybe another pepper shrimp tho... but yes th3 service was excellent and really appreciated. Both stars given were for that. Im sorry i cant give you guys a better rating. I just dont wanna mislead peoplw and just let them know what to...
Read moreI've been to the Avenue over the years, stopping off there during my time between the US and Ontario, and as far as a restaurant goes, they do a great job. The pics below are two years apart. My feeling is that there are pros and cons to everything. The food we eat the way we drive and live. The Avenue has a Manhattan style general manager at the helm, how can I say this or compare this, because I've been, I've observed and noted. I’m a transfer to Ontario. There are, what appears to be two shift managers, a firm, yet service-oriented woman and another gentleman. The general manager however, does his job, but not the usual run of the mill method. Strip away the accent and some broken English and you’ll find a NY/NY style of managing, I’m talking Manhattan, not Brooklyn/Queens; and if his boss is reading this, be prepared to give him a raise. This review is for travellers, not potential employment. So far we have ventured into 35 Caribbean restaurants in the Toronto area and five in the NY/PA states along with others in the more Southern States. Only licenced eateries. My rating: Food: three stars, reason? The menu has seen little or no change in a couple years; the decor I’m seeing the same. Service: four stars, they have good people working for them. Management: five stars. Which gives an average of a four (4) star rating. I would recommend this business to all travellers, ignore the specials and enjoy a full meal. They also offer doggie bags if needed. Cheers Update : September 4th. After a long break in grabbing lunch, I can definitely say the chili Chicken special has improved with Suttle changes, 8/10. Thanks for the excellent service Judy Update: Feb 2019. I've been back here with some associates, things have changed a little, even a former employee who was having lunch (AJ) commented that the service was lacking. I've made two daytime visits, maybe I'll try the evening. Is the Mgr. (B) still there?? will...
