Athabasca Burger Bar — Restaurant in Town of Athabasca

Cute place we stopped to have lunch at, so glad we did! Like stepping into some 70's retro diner, not joking! You gotta experience this place if you're into this type of sideways hidden gems. Locals are aplenty here, looks like everyone knows everyone. Our server was busy yet she took care of us well, our order came out fresh to order. Pretty sure we came off like city folks, yet the small town energy made me feel welcome. When I inquired what the burger shack was famous for, our waitress said "The Big show" which we had already decided on so this made me excited. It did not disappoint! I heard the soup of the day was hamburger macaroni soup, talk about comfort food heaven! We'll be back if ever passing through again :) Thank you for lunch! Oh also before leaving I asked our waitress what her favorite milkshake was, she said the lime so I ordered one to take on the road ( when a diner is this unique one simply doesn't walk away without grabbing...

Visited July 10, 2023. I had really high hopes for this restaurant as so many of the reviews are 4+ stars. Unfortunately the experience was very underwhelming. The restaurant is dirty. As soon as you walk in there is a years worth of dust and grime in front of the faded posters in the window. There is dirt built up in all the corners and there were bugs and cobwebs all through the windows. My baby was running around and the white bottom of her shoes were black afterwards.

My husband and I ordered the Big show and BBQ burger. They’re between 13-15 per item and the patty’s are a cheap frozen variety, as are the fries. My burger had sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions that were either so cooked or so old that they were mushy. The burger bun was soggy and fell apart before I could get more than a couple bites in. The cheese was a processed cheese slice.

We will not be going back to give this restaurant...

So today was my running around day in Athabasca. I had a few stops that I had to make. My young son Gavin came with me today and was a big help for his dad. His reward was some ice cream and I knew exactly where to go. Unfortunately today being Tuesday they were closed and I was told by the two gentlemen outside. Dejected we started heading to the fas gas to get something out of the freezer. Then a lady stopped us and asked my son if he was looking to get ice cream and his eyes lit up. She invited us in and my son got his ice cream his reward for the day. Thank you to the staff at the burger bar for this, you didn’t have to on your day off and your generosity was above and beyond. We will make this a stop whenever we can. Thank you....
