Golden Fountain Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Athabasca

Not coming back, So we came here eating in seeing all the good reviews. pricy but the portions are huge, it’s a family owned restaurant their children are running around helping which is sweet. No music playing so very quiet

First we got wontongs for an appetizer

Wontons came out looked half cooked their was a soft spot in the middle we were eating around. To get the crispy part.

We figured maybe our meal would be better

Had the Chowmein noodles they weren’t fully cooked no taste very bland, you can see how unappetizing it looks.

I had the chicken fried rice and deep fried chicken balls, it looked good the chicken balls did on the outside, but once I cut into it, the dough was still soggy and raw inside, the chicken in the chicken balls were like rubber, I spit it out, the rice was white rice cooked, Chinese food, rice is always brown fried chicken rice,

You could get 14 crispy deep fried chicken balls For $17.95 which I went with the children’s menu cause I only wanted a small meal, and that came with 3 chicken balls and rice, that was the smallest portion. They had for adult 14 deep fried chicken balls!!!!!

Just by walking in could see a dirty dish cart near the wall where we ate flys around it, bathroom was so gross old and smelly,

I had high hopes he said the sauce we had was sweet and sour we asked for cherry sauce and the owner said people always call sweet and sour cherry sauce, one of us said well cherry sauce is red,/sweet and sour, he said to us that’s red, it was plum sauce

Also I don’t think a real authentic Chinese food place would server burgers...

Unfortunately today was NOT their day. Most of my food was spoiled, had a horrible smell, and tasted rotten. I had the Sui Mai which I couldn't eat, the spring rolls had turned, the honey pork didn't taste right either. The veggies and rice were okay, but at this point my stomach was so taken back by the rest of my food I just couldn't.

The place itself hadn't been cleaned in sometime. It was very unfortunate all around. When your looking for Chinese food in Athabasca Happy Garden is the place to go!

I will not be coming back to Golden Fountain again. Honestly the worst Chinese food I think I have ever had. Which says alot as Chinese is my #1 food to order.

Enjoyed a tasty (dine in) meal. We were greeted promptly and kindly, sat at a table immediately, served our beverages quickly and our orders taken as soon as we had made our choices. Our server (possibly an owner?) was friendly and courteous. The meal itself was delicious … and I’ve never seen such large chicken wings! All meats and vegetables were fresh and properly cooked. (** This is opposite to our experience over at Happy Garden. See my review there.) Although the atmosphere and bathrooms may have been lacking somewhat, it was definitely made up by the excellent food and kind staff person! We will definitely be back to this...
