A hidden gem of tasty Canadian-Chinese food at reasonable prices. We found this restaurant by accident while driving to another eatery. The tip off was seeing ALOT of parked cars in front of this restaurant and almost none at our original choice. Another good sign was the number of people doing pickup for take out food. It was Good Fortune to find this friendly small family run restaurant with a buffet on a Saturday night. It had a good selection of traditional favorites, as well as a small salad bar with freshly prepared cut fruits and vegetables, and cold seafood (shrimps and mussels). The buffet trays were refilled frequently so that food was freshly cooked and hot. I have to say the tender and flavourful ginger beef was perfect, worth a repeat visit on its own. They also make delectable won ton soup - you can taste the ginger notes in the soup dumpling. We will certainly make it one of our favorite Hinton stops from now on. (Just $24.99 for adults on a Saturday night, seniors and...
Read moreWestern Chinese food is definitely not "gourmet," rarely excellent, usually filling and good value, and occasionally awful. This falls into the awful category.
The chicken fried rice smelled and tasted of an old musty closet, with the driest chicken I have ever experienced. The beef chow mein was totally tasteless, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't beef from a cow that was in there, as sparsely decorated with meat as it was. The sweet and sour pork... sweet, and maybe there was some pork in the batter somewhere? Chicken balls were OK, with tender chicken, but too much ball.
And the ultimate travesty: an already fried egg roll, dipped in about a half pound of batter, fried, and containing more oil than some decent sized emirates, with the hidden inner egg roll turned into a limp, soggy barfpocket. 1 star due to the order being ready for pickup exactly on time, otherwise, zero...
Read moreThe food here is very good. They are open for dining in (a concern in the Covid19 times of 2020). As we were just passing through we wanted a place to sit down and enjoy our meal. Our food was piping hot and delicious. They have several options for combination plates for individuals which is a nice option that many Chinese food restaurants don't offer. We both chose combination plates and neither of us could finish our meal. Everything we had tasted great. A bit pricey but good quantity and very good quality so, considering you're in a town on the edge of the Canadian Rockies, I would say the food here is well worth the price. I would definitely...
