Dude nah. The real dish; when I ordered the carne asada tacos, they came with a huge side of disappointment. Basically totally unseasoned, over cooked minced beef of questionable cut and quality. This is not carne asada. It was not braised tenderloin, or rib steak swimming in wonderful spices. It was not slow cooked. The prices would reflect that those tacos definitely should have been a top cut sirloin, they were most assuredly not. Reading all these reviews makes me question everybody's perceptions. I almost expected some old elpaso and tostitos. To add insult to injury it cost a fortune and we felt pretty ripped off. To correct this taco fiasco and wipe this taco memory out I dined at Tres Carnales in Edmonton just yesterday. It was cheaper (and still not cheap!) And its freakin proper Mexi. Tres should be considered as a bench mark here in Alberta for proper mexi street style food. A benchmark that really isnt hard to even come close to.
Perhaps my friend and I came in too early to get what we actually ordered, and not some pathetic facsimile of proper street tacos, perhaps they forgot something? Perhaps chef was having a bad day? All of that is unacceptable really. This was my first and probably only visit. Very hesitant to give it another chance and very suspicious of everybody's idea of proper Mexi here in...
Read moreFirst off I will say that the staff are very nice, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean but the food…….? I had very high hopes for this place from all the positive reviews. When we travel we always like to dine at little independent restaurants especially Mexican. The chips and guacamole were ok, I did really like the chips even though they weren’t freshly made. The guacamole was very smooth, like put through a blender smooth with a few chunks of tomato. It wasn’t badly flavoured just odd. And then the salsa was just out of a jar, similar to Pace picante sauce. With all the effort into the decorations and the hand written menu chalkboard you would expect fresh made salsa! We then had the beef fajita tacos, it was just strips of unseasoned beef fried with green pepper and onions placed on the corn tortillas and then piled with melted cheddar cheese. Absolutely no seasoning, no flavour very bland. They did have a selection of hot sauces, house made I think with varying degrees of hotness. They were ok but thankfully they had Valentina. Overall it had the feeling of someone wanting to have a Mexican restaurant but did not understand the food. My 2 stars were given just for the look and cleanliness and the staff, the food...
Read moreThe setting is nice if not cluttered. The menu is small with not many options. The time we went it was a group of 4 and we split the chips and salsa and 3 of us the enchiladas special and 1 the torta. While this place advertised as Mexican cuisine everything we ate had a Indian flavor to it the most Mexican thing we had were the tortilla chips. Forks and knives were not provided, we had to ask for them and recieved the extremely rude response that since we had sauces on the table we should have had silverware. They were none to happy to bring it to us since one member of the party took the bucket of sauce from an abandoned table to see the selection. And getting a refill on your water was near impossible. In this particular restaurant you place your order at the counter and wait at the table for it to be brought out(which was no problem, there are many places like that) then pay after you eat. After the poor service we recieved a member of our party did not leave a tip and while I was paying the 2 servers were whispering to themselves at how rude it was and other negative things in earshot of paying customers. Absolutely terrible service. We were all disappointed with the service and food at rojo marron and will not...
