There are nights where you just can’t decide what to do for dinner out… I was staying at the BW attached to the restaurant, or vice versa! I couldn’t figure out what to do about dinner. So I thought, well Ricky’s as a pretty varied menu, certainly I’ll find something. Glad I did. Ricky’s hit the spot… I think Ricky’s gets lumped into the “family” restaurant, breakfast place but the menu is a little more varied than most and thinking about it, I can’t complain about the meals I have had at various Ricky’s… back to this one. I started with a nice bowl of the Tomato Basil soup. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was! Very tasty, nice texture. A bigger bowl with some nice bread (also offered) and it could be a nice light meal for someone. I had a hard time deciding on a main because I was in a comfort food mood… I had it down to a number of different selections and ended up combining a couple. In the end I had the Philly. Let’s be honest, a Philly is a Philly. They are all pretty similar so you can’t go too far wrong there! Toasting the loaf face is one improvement I could suggest but it was just fine as is. I have a thing for mashed potatoes. They are one of my favourite comfort foods! I could eat a whole plate of them alone. Being in the comfort food mindset I asked if I could substitute the mashed potatoes for the regular sides and they were happy to do it for me. When they main arrived the Mashed were in a fairly substantial bowl and smothered in gravy… quite nice gravy, too. It was a very generous helping. Honestly I could have licked the bowl. Service was good, quick, friendly… Very good experience overall… so all I can say is, if you are heading out and don’t know where to go or what to have, maybe Ricky’s has something for you. I won’t hesitate to come back and try an item or two I see had...
Read moreThis was one of the WORST, and I mean WORST restaurant experiences in my life, I kid you not. We were staying in the Best Western, which is attached to this poor excuse for a restaurant, and went to grab something to eat at approximately 8 p.m. There was a snowstorm outside and there weren't many people inside, even though it was a Saturday night. In spite of the many empty tables, we waited 50 minutes for our order to arrive. Other people who came in after us received their meals before we did, including a nearby couple who didn't ever get part of the meal they had ordered. When ours finally arrived, it was barely edible. My husband's fish was dry and overcooked. His cole slaw looked like a stomach bug ready to happen, and made sometime back in 1983. My hamburger bun was way overtoasted to the point it was a dark brown, dry bunch of crumbs, and the hamburger itself tasted more fishy than my husband's fish. The fries were just boring old frozen fries, totally forgettable. Those two things, fish & chips and a cheeseburger with fries, plus a couple of soft drinks, cost nearly fifty bucks, including a tip the waitress didn't deserve. Honestly the food would have been better and faster and cheaper at McDonald's! Save your money! Save your taste buds! DON'T GO THERE! I've never written such a negative review, but this experience was a total waste of money and time. It's too bad, because the hotel it's attached to is really nice and the staff are awesome. The management had better pull up its socks or this joint will be out of...
Read moreWent there today for Father’s Day, and I don’t think we’ll ever go back. I’m not sure what’s going on, because on Mother’s Day the service was great and fast, and it was a full house. Today, we waited 20 minutes to be asked for our drink order, at least another 10 minutes to get even a coffee, and waited over an hour for our food to come (with one order that they forgot to put in at all and one that came out missing ingredients) and it was not a full restaurant. If there are staffing issues and there is going to be a significant delay in getting food out, you need to tell your customers before they sit down so they can decide if waiting around is worth their time, but there was no communication at all from the server. The food was fine when it finally came, except for the missing ingredients (didn’t even bother complaining about that, because I was afraid they’d take another hour to fix it) but there are other places in town just as good that are better organized and treat their customers better. The restaurant was also on the dirty side. Syrup on the menus and on the booth. Overall just so...
