Like many Yellowhead County residents, I have eaten here literally hundreds of times here over the past two decades. It is basically typical of the Burger Baron franchise, which I always find dependable in rural Alberta, but with a bit of a twist. The donairs here are virtually unequaled, especially if you take their standard taziki sauce instead of ordering sweet. Lots of veges! I have had the opportunity to discuss donairs with the owner, and told him of my particularly good experience with genuine Turkish donairs (kebab or doner kebab) in Japan. He told me of a place in the City that I quickly forgot. Then my son went on the web to find proper kebab in the city and we went. Totally out of the blue, the owner of the Baron in Mayerthorpe happened to be eating in the same place in the city. That place was excellent but I will leave it out of this review for the obvious reasons. The key point of my review is that the Mayerthorpe Burger Baron will not disappoint in terms of the typical rural Burger Baron experience with respect to burgers and pizzas. Note the key term here rural. Having said that, which is essentially is an average review, do try the donair with their standard taziki sauce. If you are hungry then do a jumbo, but please do not screw it up with either cheese or sweet sauce. That ain't a proper donair. We don't live in Nova...
Read moreWe bought a mushroom burger, chicken burger & a pinacolada shake. Friendly happy workers. Spoke little english. No problem, just point to your menue item. Good people. The MUSHROOM BURGER meat was rubbery and barely a 1/4 inch thick. The bun fell apart. The CHICKEN BURGER MEAT super thin. There was more coating on both sides than chicken, it had 2 table spoons of sauce,(WHICH I SCOUPED OUT) 1 wilted iceburge sprig, with 3 bits of fresh onion. The onion was the freshest part. The bun was not a quality texture bun. It fell apart as well. The shake tasted like EXCESSIVELY sweet milk, no flavoring. It was so bad we couldn't drink it. There was no coconut, pineapple, flavour at all. We tried, but gave up. The sugar rush was gross. We used the bathroom, which was very dirty. The soap was watered down so much, it wouldn't lather. Sink and toilet very unsanitary. Not worth the cost. We would have returned the order, but we never started to eat it for a good half hour down the cowboy trail. Then realized the poor quality. Won't be going back. Lovely people running the place thats why I...
Read moreMy fiancé's and my second time trying Burger Baron, and it was still extremely disappointing, and after I had asked my fiancé if this is where we were a couple weeks ago at another location, I was dreading the food! My fiancé had a Dad's Burger and I had a Ham and Cheese Club Sandwich, which both were slightly better than the Baron Burgers we had the first time around, but still had a disappointing taste. I wasn't impressed with how much the Club Sandwich lacked toppings. We got an order of regular fries, which tasted really bad (dry and crispy). They looked like they'd be good, but that was deceiving. In all honesty, for the price, I'd rather go to McDonald's and get more food for less than this meal at Burger Baron cost! I'd also rather wait and eat later on than to stop here! Won't be coming back again.... not anytime...
