Evergreen Cafe — Restaurant in Town of Souris

This place has changed owners recently. Fortunately the food is just as good- probably better than before. The new Owners have really put their heart and soul into this cafe. They excel at soups in particular. The corn chowder and fajita soups are awesome. I have been a regular customer for 5 years. The menu is limited, which is a good thing - better to do a few things right than serving a mediocre but large menu. Coffees are great, salads are great. The prices are a bit high, but one must realize that most of the income for such a place is seasonal, so this is understandable. It's pretty busy at lunch during tourist season, be prepared to wait a bit- it's not "fast food". Free wifi. Clean washrooms at the tourist center next door. Pics...

I literally held the door open for the waitress as she opened up shop at 9am. We were given a menu and sat on the patio. 20 minutes later other people who were also there at opening time, and sat at the table beside us, had been served and already had their food. We had not even been spoken to. When I went inside to see why, I saw everyone sitting inside, who had arrived after us, had at least water and utensils, some had their food. We had been completely ignored. We left. Not a great start to our first visit to PEI which we have looked forward to for almost 20 years. Absolutely stunning quality in this coffee shop that took me by surprise. We did not order food — only coffee — and no one in my party was disappointed. All flavorings tasted like they were made “from scratch” and “in house,” with nothing pre-packaged. The autumn spice latte was delightfully spiced without any sickening sweetness. The peppermint mocha had flecks of real chocolate still suspended in motion, melding with the beverage. I was blown away by the deliciousness and individual uniqueness of this unassuming cafe.
