Was surprised by this little hole in the wall that looks like the beginning of a Stephen King novel from the outside.
Inside was a elegant rustic interior, with a very social atmosphere.
Before I get to the food I'll say that the main failing I noticed was that, like most small restaurants, they are somewhat short staffed which kept them very busy. Though they still did an excellent job
Now the fun part, first let me say that although, as a whole, there is room for improvement, it's hard not to respect a restaurant that makes its own chicken fingers from scratch (it's a children's and picky eater go to but ignored or simply unthawed by many restaurants. Making them from scratch (although tedious and time consuming) shows respect for what is often viewed as the lowest rung of your clientele.
I had the double bbq here and it was awesome the salad with house dressing was excellent (and I really dislike salad let alone cranberries in salad but Damn that was good. The bulgogi was good but definitely toned down for more western tastes, still the flavours of soy and sesame were still easily distinguishable without being overpowering. The grilled and fried chicken were wonderfully cooked (slick but not overly greasy).
I really enjoyed this restaurant, especially since I just moved to Red Deer and didn't know where to get good bulgogi anymore.
Thank you very much,...
Read moreINCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I was not expecting something THIS AMAZING given that this restaurant is in such an unassuming place. The food is absolutely TO DIE FOR! We ordered the Shanghai seafood pasta, the bulgogi mushroom pasta, and the Korean barbeque plate. All were very delicious!! The Shanghai seafood was perfectly spicy (I ordered 'spicy') and contained an impressive amount of various seafoods (squid rings, scallops, mussles, and king prawns). The bulgogi mushroom pasta was sweet and also had a large amount of bulgogi beef. The Korean barbeque plate was great because you can customize it to what you want. Portions here are certainly generous!!!And the interior is also very well decorated. They have nice new credit card machines as well (a while back they were cash only). They are in the middle of replacing their chairs so if you get a wobbly one I'm sure you can just ask...
Read moreWent here yesterday for the first time for breakfast and it did not disappoint! It's a small cozy restaurant with an outdoor eating area, if you choose. The menu options were great and they had a lot of choices for my two boys. Our waitress, Kathy, was very friendly, made great menu recommendations, and gave a little extra TLC to my two kiddos.
Now to the important part, the food! Wow! It amazing! I got the breakfast poutine with the fried chicken. It was the perfect about of sweet and savory, with a Korean flare. The portion size was great for the price, my husband had to finish it off for me. My husband had the Lokal special and said it was really good, he just wished there was more potatoes lol My boys ate their entire breakfast and for my youngest is unheard of!
When we visit Sylvan Lake this will definitely be on our...
