Went here the other evening. They have an app! I ordered via phone but was able to view their menu online. They have ample seating indoors, as well as outdoors. We sat on the boulevard at the picnic tables. Everything is set up with distance in mind, clean and a nice place to eat. There are 2 washrooms. They were clean and stocked. Ample parking with ramp and stairs to get in to the establishment. There is a pick up window from the outside, so you don't need to go in to get your food if you've ordered pick-up. Upon entering, the staff seems to be in their own world and doesn't pay attention to folks standing at the door, or at least that was my experience. Maybe they were just focused on the task at hand but I had 2 staff pass by me and said nothing. Everyone was at least working. An acknowledgement would have been nice. The staff person who took my order over the phone was so helpful. I was able to order off the menu but wanted to know the flavour options for the sundae, she listed many and it helped me make a decision! Food is tasty but portions are on the small side. Their home fries were disappointing. Soggy, greasy, no crisp. I wouldn't return here for fries. Their cats cuts were nice and crispy, and tasty too! The menu had a lot of vegetarian options (seems rare these days)...all burgers can be made with their beyond the meat patty and they had a vegan option for many things too--grilled cheese, sub cheese for hummus! Very impressed to see the variety on their menu. Would be willing to try something else next time. The sundaes were delish and the serving was generous. Parking is ample. Located conveniently to the left upon entering from the highway. Seems like the nicely spot, especially if you want to sit in. I'd go here again and try something different!

After a day of channeling our inner otters at West Hawk Lake, where the sun was relentless and the water refreshing, we stumbled into the nearest eatery, ravenous and half-delirious. We had no idea were entering a culinary revelation that would leave us questioning everything we thought we knew about comfort food. The place itself was unassuming, the kind of joint where you expect solid, no-nonsense fare—maybe a burger, some fries, a cold beer to wash it all down. But what they served us was nothing short of genius. The main event? A hamburger steak smothered in gravy, a comforting sight on any plate. But the kicker, the stroke of brilliance that could only come from the mysterious minds north of the border, was the thick slab of garlic toast hiding underneath. Yes, you read that right—garlic toast, buried like treasure beneath a mound of meaty, gravy-soaked goodness. Now, I’ve seen a lot in my day—deep-fried pickles, bacon-wrapped everything, even pizza with pineapple (don’t get me started)—but this? This was a new level of culinary wizardry. The garlic toast was the perfect sponge, soaking up every last drop of that savory gravy, while still maintaining enough crunch to remind you it was there, doing its noble duty. With each bite, my faith in Canadian innovation grew. These are the same folks who gave us poutine, after all, so perhaps we should have expected nothing less. But here we were, blindsided by the sheer audacity of it all. If you ever find yourself stumbling out of West Hawk Lake, famished and in need of a good meal, do yourself a favor and order the hamburger steak. Your taste buds will thank you, your arteries might hate you, but you’ll leave with a full belly and a newfound respect for the culinary genius flowing from the Great White North.

A very well, hidden gem, at least to this reviewer, in the Whiteshell area of Manitoba. A friend and I had frequented this area often every summer, but had always went to the same restaurant /lounge at west hawk lake. On this day, however, serendipity Would have that the establishment we frequented was closed on Monday. We looked across the street and saw the night Hawk Café. Deciding that we needed to get something to eat we headed over there and were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and enthusiasm of the serving staff. We sat out in there, fully covered and enclosed Deck area. The service was wonderful and, as stated, very enthusiastic. These days it’s hard to get serving staff due to Covid, but at the nighthawk they manage to not only have serving staff that were very attentive, but pleasant to deal with. The food was quite good. My friend had both soups that were on Offer. A borsch and a split pea soup. He said both were very good. I, however, went for one of their specialty hotdogs. The spicy version that had banana peppers, jalapeños, a spicy sauce, onions, and cheese. On an open face bun. I also had a Caesar salad with my meal. We shared a pitcher of beer due to the waitresses recommendation that if we were going to have two each it was cheaper to get the pitcher. Nice touch :-) I found their prices to be reasonable. Their service to be wonderful. And their establishment to be clean and well-kept. I will definitely be going there again.

Honestly, I never rate anything 5 stars, because I’m a firm believer that nothing is perfect. I had a hard time rating 4 stars, and hit the 5 star rating for the first time ever. We camped at Falcon Lake this past weekend, and drove to West Hawk for breakfast, knowing this place was there because we had camped in West Hawk some weeks prior. We were immediately greeted at the door by (I think) Tyler, which also turned out to be our server. We were seated in the beautiful screened in patio, where he took our order, and promptly brought my coffee. Service was the most amazing I’ve ever experienced in all my 46 years. My coffee never reached empty, he, and his coworkers regularly stopped by and asked how everything was, and if we needed anything else. I tell ya, the owner of this place nailed it how to run a business. Even after people started to pile in after we arrived, their more than efficient staff kept pace. I really can’t say enough about how pleased I am with my experience here. Food prices were on par with any restaurant I’ve ever been to, and the eggs were cooked to perfection, no joke. I always get my eggs over easy, and most all restaurants seem to have a hard time doing this without making the egg a runny, partially uncooked slop mess, or over cooking it to the point where there’s next to no yolk to dip your toast in. These guys passed the egg perfection test with flying colours! Seriously, you need to experience this place for yourself to believe it. I’ll...
