We had driven in front of this place a few times and there was always a line in front of it. We had also heard about this place from a co-worker and having moved into the area, we figure we should try it instead of going al the way into the city to pick some up. The gentleman we had lined up beside said that “we wouldn’t be disappointed” so needless to say, we were excited, but MAN was this place disappointing. We had grown up eating good Chinese food and this place unfortunately did not compare.
The food is comparable to buffet style Chinese food - it was cold and starchy and not very flavourful. We were told it would take 45 mins to prepare our order which was fine, but when we got there to pick up our food, we waited an additional 40 mins before we received it. Upon receiving our meals we were underwhelmed by the fried rice, which was just soy sauce and rice and, the wonton soup dumplings were bland and starchy (although the broth wasn’t too bad! Especially with the crunchy noodles they add on the side!) but the kicker was the chow mein.... there was no noodles?! It was just bean sprouts and your protein. We thought maybe they had made a mistake so we asked and they said that the only chow mein they sell with noodles is the Cantonese one. I wish we would have known, but we didn’t realize they’d make a completely different dish because we chose a different protein...
The lady at the cash seemed really sweet and the restaurant itself seemed really busy, but I think it’s mostly because they’ve cornered the market in terms of asian food in the area because the nearest place other than there is about 15 mins back by car.
Take away? If you’re looking hit-the-spot, traditional, family-style Chinese food, you’re sadly going to have to trek...
Read moreRight. What was that? I grew up on Vancouver Chinese food so this was really something else. We placed the order at 2:45pm for pick-up at 6:30pm. Ample time to get it right, right? When we arrived, the food was ready. When we un-boxed the food 5 minutes later at home, the food was cold and soggy. 😳 We live 4 minutes from the restaurant. The shrimp was veined thawed shrimp ring on yellow lettuce? General Tao was mostly batter and dry. There was no beef in neither the Ginger Beef nor the Beef & Broccoli. The noodles tasted like dirty pan. The chicken in the Cantonese Chow Mein lacked chicken & noodles. The steamed rice was fantastic as well as the commercially-packaged fortune cookies lol. I had to reheat, refry and nuke ever.y.thing. We ordered for $134. Ayoye. Most disappointing for my...
