Amazing souvlaki and gyro! new place open only a month-and-a-half as of the 14th of March 2019. A family-run business with husband and wife and probably a couple of offspring. The people I was with were busy rushing out even though I came from out of town to meet some for supper so a wonderful coffee was awaiting for me but they wanted to leave before it arrived so I offered to buy the glass along with the coffee but they wouldn't permit it unfortunately. Big lively space.but perhaps a little bit too lively because the acoustics are highly reflective and the ceiling seems not to be able to disperse the bounce back. Otherwise I'm hard-working team and the water is especially fresh tasting. A small Coke in a bottle is $3.50 and a ginger ale from a can is $2.50 the number one meal is about 14 1/2 dollars and it goes up to somewhere in the area of $20. Tsatikki is extra charge! Now that was a big surprise! the potatoes are good but they put some melted stuff on it and make some special and the rice is standard Greek restaurants puffy kind of interesting tasty rice. They don't have their liquor license yet and they're not pursuing a bring your own wine restaurants license either. The lighting is very bright. it'll certainly doing the pinch but it's in line with another restaurant and a dip under inside a gas station and then them at the corner and most of all it's a Petro-Canada gas station with them renting a piece of it at the end and having remodels it's to big and bright. they do need to make something special from its other than themselves being very special the owners in the family because they have a lot of competition all around them for less dollars, better ambience, and BYOB. The owner told me it's double what his expectations were. I don't know what he was expecting. So when your family lays down a bunch of money and they're all working the restaurant you know you have a commitment. He might want to make some lunch specials and knock back a couple of prices. Most of us eating is lunch counter tables although they are comfortable and nicely done but there are some booths. .I'll have to go back to try that special coffee and I was really sorry she wouldn't sell me the class, the wife of the owner. I would have paid $10 for the class and giving her the $3.50 for the coffee iced coffee it was, but there was no taking my offer unfortunately. . Good folks and the wife is very special with some sort of magical way about her. She alone makes it worth it . otherwise take everything else into consideration. No photos...
Read moreThere's tons of souvlaki places in Montreal girth and I mean literally tons of the place. This was the first one to open in the Hudson area arsene lazard border on Hudson and as such it's unique. It's a big place it's square not much ambience and the owner walks around smiling ear-to-ear cuz he's making a small fortune now. They didn't have their liquor license when I went but I prefer a BYOB restaurant NES nice and bring your own beer or wine. The food was good folleti scary but my friends Rush does so fast that I couldn't even drink my coffee. Came 15 minutes after we ordered it and the place wasn't that busy so I was disappointed and when we were paying at the cash the wife of the owner that serves us and was very nice, but us the coffee and it was a sad look on his face. I said I'll buy it from you and I'll give you twenty bucks for the glass and the coffee but they wouldn't sell it to me so I didn't pay for the coffee or did I? I don't remember. They should have sold me the cup and the coffee for 20 bucks but they didn't. The food was definitely good enough but as I said, there's tons of souvlaki places in Montreal proper and all over the island so it's no big deal for me. I expect a lot because of all the choices I have. Even throughout the islands of Montreal and all of Laval and lavalle's even bigger than Montreal so they were fine and people seems happy enough. I think they've got to get some of their service routines in better shape but overall service was decent and the wife of the owner was exceptionally pleasant and the owner was going to be able to save a greeting everybody but he was too happy making all that money. You should have been paying more attention I think and seeing what he could do for people and asking them their experiences perhaps if he helped he has to speak to every table. I personally found it somewhat off-putting girl I'm there to eat on there with my friends please bring me my food makes it good make it quick make it reasonably priced. Oh yeah and he will be priced either. I could have gone across the street to the Asian place where I can bring my own wine and the food is delicious and lots of choices of types of Asian food and it's way better priced too. And a nicer ambulance as well. This guy is in a gas station with the last door on the left side near the lane besides the building. And the place is just one big square place with lots of seating I didn't find it full of ambience so we definitely better come up with something else to make a...
Read moreFood was fantastic as well as the service! In fact, I travelled from Nova Scotia and was dining alone. There wasn't any seating for one person really as there were tables for 6 that were all filled as it was a busy night. One of the staff, apparently he wasn't the owner but you'd think he was as he was EXTREMELY kind & accomodating and after a couple of minutes' of clearing/ resetting the table he presented me with the menu and had a very good meal and service. It bothered me as even though I was from Nova Scotia I was certain I had met him before.🤔 After asking the staff who he was and then talking to him I was blown away as about 6 or so years ago I passed through Vaudreuil (?) and stayed at the holiday inn ( think it was😝) and had pretty well driven 11 hours just stopping for gas. When I checked into the hotel I saw a souvlaki restaurant not very far from there. It was around closing time at the restaurant and I was extremely hungry after a long drive and they had forgotten to lock the door after their last customer and when I walked in someone said " sorry, we're closed"! Feeling defeated I began to leave when one of the staff said "no , you can come in and eat" saying so enthusiastically! It was the same person who I've since run into for a second time and I remembered him for his enthusiasm, incredible dignity in helping out a ravenous customer & second to none professionalism in the food services trade. If the owner of " Souvlaki Authentique" is reading this, I hope you realize what an amazing person you have working for & with you! I've never in my 61 years met such an incredible gift of a person within the food industry. The first time I met him, if he would of said " sorry, we're closed" that would of been the end of it and the restaurant would of lost a sale. Because of this guy's dignity in letting this tired tourist stay and eat beyond closing not only filled my stomach with some great Souvlaki but think I ate there every night after for 6 nights ! Flash forward after all these years, you have the great fortune of having this gentleman now at your restaurant and because of your great employee, I ate there twice before having to fly home. I can't wait to come back to Montreal and eat here once again for the great service & food. Apologies for being long winded but just wanted to pass...
