As we approached the back of the line-up at Richard’s, there was an active debate in front of us over whether the long wait was worth it, or whether the shorter line at the Lobster Barn, in clear sight, was the play. They went with the shorter wait, to our benefit. Still, it was almost 1 hour before our lobster was in our hands. The Classic (not butter, people, come on!) was the pro balance of mayo, lemon and dill, the perfect foil for the sweet lobster. They lift it. Enhance it. Delicious. The fries or salad? Neither are needed unless you are seeking out a food coma, but there was no no-side option. Fries were well cooked, though. Verdict: you would have to do something Miraculous to beat this lobster roll. They let the lobster sing, let it be the star of the show. And that’s what we were seeking. Double yum. I’ll take it a step further, next time I go I will ask that they don’t even butter the outside of the roll before toasting. It is only a distraction...
Read moreRichard’s is the kind of place that makes you believe in love at first bite. Yes, there’s a wait—of course there’s a wait. If there wasn’t a wait, I’d be suspicious. But honestly, the line just gives you extra time to imagine the glorious seafood feast you’re about to inhale. Think of it as foreplay for your taste buds.
And when that tray finally lands in your hands? Magic. The lobster roll is so overflowing with lobster it needs its own zip code. The fish and chips? Crispy, golden, and portioned like they’re trying to apologize for the wait—because these servings are perfect. Not too much, not too little—Goldilocks would retire here.
Richard’s doesn’t just serve seafood; it serves life-altering experiences wrapped in paper trays. You’ll leave full, happy, and maybe a little smug because you now understand why this place is basically a local legend. Ten out of ten, would happily stand in line again, grinning like a fool, because this food simply...
Read moreWent to Richards in Victoria a few days ago with my daughter and WOW!!! We ordered the 1 piece fish and chips, a lobster roll and the fried scallop taco. The fried scallop taco was AMAZING! It does have a spicy mayo on it, which the cashier made sure to mention before putting the order through, in case we didn't want the spicy mayo on it. The lobster roll had huge chuncks of fresh lobster in it and so much flavour, it was definitely the best lobster roll I had while in the Maritimes. The fish, in the fish and chips, was perfectly battered and came apart so easily. No knife needed! Even if you don't like seafood I would suggest stopping by for some of their French fries.
Their terrace is dog friendly and the people that work there are super friendly and helpful, one of the owners went above and beyond to help us out. Thanks again 😊
Richards is going to be a permanent stop for us whenever we go...
