Many things in this shop remind me of what I ate in Ukraine, and what my Ukrainian wife makes... the Kiev Cake and Honey Cake and Walnut Cookies are classic and so tasty they even compare with my wifes, and she is a champion baker from the Great Canadian Baking Show! I hope they can collaborate or work together... I would like to come again...
You can be happy here with a light snack or many snacks for a full meal.. I would be happy if I spent $8... and I was VERY happy to spend $80 buying one of almost everything! So its affordable and reasonable...
The cafe reminds me of modern cafe's in Ukraine that I visited, clean and comfortable and only missing a large TV with 1plus1 for Ukraine news :)
You MUST try the "Malina" drink... its like a Ukrainian mojito, full of tasty refreshing fruit and mint and just a little bubbly.
We went for coffee and a treat, but I saw the display and I bought one of everything, then proceeded to stuff myself... the savory treats are great too.. mushroom chicken buns, quiche with excellent crust! Soft chewy cinnamon buns with baileys!! Cute sausage in a bun which is just like I ate walking around markets and streets in Mukachevo or Lviv. Just look at the filling in the mushroom chicken buns!!!
The lattes are nice, the coffee is tasty and has a pretty decoration on top... absolutely NOTHING was bad. The staff were friendly, the poppyseed rolls were generously filled like your granny might make... The bathrooms were clean, even other customers were happy and friendly to chat and try new treats.
There are familiar treats here, and new things too that Canadians might never have seen before and will enjoy.
I am spoiled because of my wife Nataliia, after she won the baking show on TV I have eaten more delicious creations than I thought possible, and I'm difficult to impress...
Malina Bakery is impressive :) I was so happy eating everything I think I even made my wife jealous!
Go enjoy, there is a few seats outside in the sun, and comfy seats inside.
Best part for me, REAL UKRAINIANS.. this isn't some knockoff... its LEGIT, and you...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting food and way overpriced. We ordered cabbage rolls and meat pierogies to share with my husband. Both entrees tasted like glue and were inedible. Absolutely no flavor ... NONE. So sorry we wasted our time and especially our money. We would never recommend this food to anyone. If you are craving Ukrainian food look elsewhere and don't waste your time and money here! Don't let the pictures fool you!!
Thanks for your revised reply. Glad to know you have cameras on your patrons and wonder why you don't advise them of your invading their privacy. Our comments stand ... Anna, perhaps you could take some advice from Continental Treat (what real quality pyrogies are supposed to taste like) .... or Uncle Ed's or Shumka re tasty, quality, and fairly priced food. Your presentation is exceptional... the taste of your food is bland and tastless at best. With a full day ahead of us, yes ... we decided to simplify eat the food we paid WAY TOO MUCH for, not make a fuss since we figured correctly that no on would care and simply keep our scheduled appointments for the afternoon. There was no time to hunt down another place to eat and make it to our appointments and we drove quite a ways out of our way to experience your food based on the reviews ... that was a mistake. All in all ... reading your response explains a lot ... rethink how you respond to your comments and understand that people who are familiar with good Ukrainian food might not leave any comments and just never come back! I wish we had never wasted our time and our money! If you own this "business" you should take our complaint to heart ... we didn't see a huge crowd knocking...

There's just 21 seats inside with big windows that allow lots of natural light in. It feels like a Baba's kitchen with display cases showing off all the amazing sweet and savory treats. We picked the bench seat, both facing out so as to enjoy the atmosphere. Their menu isn't big but their products are all homemade. We both decided on the Dido Combo with some wine. The borscht, fresh buns, green onion and sour cream was served first. Not only is the serving size generous, but the smells of fresh dill, roasted beets and buns was to die for! The visual of the food alone was eye pleasing, whereas the smell and taste was exceptional. Next was our sausage, perogies, cabbage roll and homemade coleslaw. Let me just say that everything was amazing. The perogies had that smooth potato flavor along with the perfect dough, the slaw had just the right amount of acidity, the cabbage roll was a delicately with it's fine herbs and ground meat and the sausage was juicy and oh so good! Even though I thought I would be too full to have a dessert, the display case called my name. I picked up three and brought two home. The Cherry Streusel was light, with a nice mix of sweet and sour. I brought home the Walnut Twist and had it with a cup of decafe at home. The nuts were full sized and it was of soo tasty. I'll save the cake for tomorrow though. The next time I'm craving a home cooked meal I can see myself returning here. The service was great, the food was exceptional and the memories it brought back of my Grandma...
