Came here instead of yujiro for a celebratory dinner, and man was I surprised. It's a small diner, which is the only complaint I have cause when this place gets more busy I'm not gonna be able to find a table.
The rolls were filled with nice fresh ingredients instead of them being mostly rice. The beef teriyaki roll had actual pieces of beef instead of the shaved beef you get elsewhere. Always love a caterpillar roll, but I wasn't expecting the Hurricane roll to be so good considering it's a California with tuna on top, but it's amazing. Nice seasoned and I think mixed with other ingredients imitation crab salad instead of those crabsticks of Pollock that are tough and bland. Even their tamago is obviously a step up from others with it being a thick yet really moist delicious slab of egg.
The nigiri of Aburi Salmon and the white tuna just fell apart in the mouth it was so tender, and nice light sweetness.
From reading other reviews, I saw a comment about "the music is too loud" and when I dined in I was asked if I wanted it turned down. That shows that the staff/owner really cares and is taking feedback seriously and to me as long as they care it's going to be my go to spot moving forward.
Thanks...
Read moreThis place is like a hidden gem in Charleswood area. The place could fit a few groups of four. Not sure how busy they get during the dinner hour. We went for a late lunch on a Thursday afternoon and we were the only customers. We ordered assorted sashimi and Sandy's platter which was assortment of rolls and a sushi pizza meant for 2-3 people. Sashimi came first, which tasted fresh and was just right. Sushi pizza came next - the rice crust was the right thickness and was perfectly crispy. The toppings on it were delicious! The size was bigger than most sushi pizzas I have tried. The platter came right after. The rice ratio was perfect, and the type of rolls that came with this platter were delicious. If I had to change one thing, it would be the sauce on the dynamite roll. It had teriyaki sauce on it, perhaps making this a spicy dynamite roll instead with spicy mayo would make this platter more rounded in flavor profile. Other than that, I will be back to try other menu items. This place...
Read moreRecently went for late lunch. It's a small, quiet, clean space, minimal Japanese decor, well lit with natural light. It was quite cold inside though; the entrance opens immediately into the dining space. A server was present immediately and water provided without asking. The menu has a lot to choose from, decided on miso soup, assorted tempura, and a fire salmon sushi roll. They added small cubes of tofu and sliced dry seaweed to the soup, which I think altered the taste. I normally quite like miso soup, but it tasted a bit different and bland. The tempura was great! Freshly made, light tempura batter, vegetables cooked through with a nice slight firmness on the carrot and broccoli. The sushi looked lovely and didn't have too much rice. The outer pieces were tasty, the middle pieces though didn't have shrimp inside. Overall, I would come back and try other things, and maybe do takeout during...
