I had breakfast here with my husband a while ago. We had walked by here during the Maple Syrup Festival and were intrigued by the retro decor. After reading some positive reviews, we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations.
We both thought that since it's Elmira, we'd have something with maple syrup. So my husband ordered the pancakes with ham and a coffee and I had the French toast with bacon. The portion size was ridiculously huge, but unfortunately taste-wise it was only okay. My husband's pancakes were quite gluey, the coffee wasn't good and my French toast lacked any kind of seasoning. The next disappointment was that the little bottle on the table did not contain real maple syrup but table syrup. Not what we expected from a restaurant in Elmira. My husband and I are decent eaters and we both went there hungry, but we only managed to eat half of what we were served. For the money we paid, we would have preferred to receive only half the amount of food but with better quality and decent syrup instead. My husband also mentioned that the men's washroom was dirty and reeked of urine.
One positive thing: The service was good and our waitress very attentive.
However, it seems to be the kind of place you go to of fill up on a lot of food for little money. It's definitely quantity over quality and wasn't worth the 20 minute drive...
Read moreAfter my family dined and received the bill we realized that two items on it were billed higher than the menu price, one for $1.00 and another for $0.50.
I approached the counter where two employees were, one who appeared to be a manager, and explained the issue. I said that if it was because the menu simply wasn’t updated, I’d be happy to pay the billed prices.
The one who appeared to be a manager said the $0.50 price difference on the first item was valid but directed the other employee to take $1.00 off the other item and simply walked away without a word.
The employee then redid the bill and along the way acknowledged that I was indeed overcharged after comparing it to the menu.
Throughout the entire interaction there was not a single apology offered. In fact, I was made to feel like I was imposing and being unreasonable for pointing out that I was overcharged.
Compare this to the customer service experienced earlier by a couple at the table next to us who received an incorrect order. The manager came over to their table and during a lengthy conversation with them apologized profusely and offered to fix the order and then to comp the entire plate.
So I know that the staff here is capable of good customer service, it’s just that, for whatever reason, it wasn’t...
Read moreThis is the only restaurant I've EVER walked away from. I ordered the hot beef lunch and my mom ordered ribs. My beef sandwich was really just sliced deli meat with gravy on a piece of white bread and it was cold, so I sent it back, when they returned with it, it had obviously just been thrown in the microwave and as a result the meat was a chewy rubbery texture. My moms mashed potatoes were cold on her plate when it came so she had to send it back as well, when it was returned potatoes were still cold. We sent our plates back to the kitchen again, told the waitress we were greatly disappointed and were going to leave. This was a couple years ago and I hope its gotten better but I'll probably never know cause I wont be...
