Restaurant & Hotel La Porte de la Mauricie — Restaurant in Yamachiche

This review is only for the hotel: Well I am not fond of a restaurant and hotel joint so this was my first experience. I was extremely skeptical at first because I had to check in at the restaurant desk. Receptionist was a bit scrambled but overall very kind and patient. The hotel isn’t inside the restaurant (thankfully), but just beside the restaurant. If you’re staying at the hotel, make sure you check in within the restaurant hours as the hotel doesn’t offer after hours check in! The price was cheap so I wasen’t expecting much. There’s no elevator to access the rooms upstairs. The rooms are better than I expected, although I didn’t have much expectations. The paint choices are dated but there were a lot of amenities provided like plastic cups, coffee, hair dryer, fridge, soap, and a microwave. I didn’t use all of the amenities so I cant speak for their function. I liked that the room was kept cool. Overall, this is a place for you to sleep for the night and the hotel served its purpose. I’d consider coming back. The location of the hotel is awesome though. There’s a McDonalds and Tim Hortons right across the street. If you need gas it’s right beside the hotel too. The hotel is located just off Highway 40 which was really convenient for us because we had a road trip the next day going...

I came here almost completely by chance, on a roadtrip with my grandmother where we took the first exit that gave us a meal, and what a wonderful surprise this restaurant was!

I ordered the lemon dill trout(table d'hôte menu, only available on Friday and Saturday evening), and it was absolutely incredible - one of the best meals I've had at any restaurant ever. The fish arrived in a sizzling griddle, full of savory butter.

The zucchini tomato soup was also fantastic, as well as the potage.

To top it off, the service was impeccably responsive - it helped that we were seated right next to the service station, but my grandmother and I were both astounded at how quickly our host poured our coffee.

Overall, I could not be more impressed with my experience. Excellent value for the price, and if I ever find myself in the area again, I'll be sure...

Hotel one night, second floor room only, not easily accessed. Large room, tired furnishings, bathroom very clean. Hot water only at the sink vanity. No ability to adjust the A/C unit. At 12:30 a.m. the room's smoke alarm started blaring. Smell of burning rubber/wires in the room but no source found. Called front desk twice by the room phone, no answer. Called using cellphone, no answer. Very unnerving. Next morning on checkout, one lone young woman at restaurant/desk.
