On New Year’s Eve (December 31st, 2022) my party of four arrived at Kaibo Restaurant at 8:10pm to join the queue for our 8:30 reservation. We were sat within 15 minutes and greeted shortly after by our friendly and energetic waitress. She inquired about our drink order but we were without a cocktail menu so she departed to locate one for our table. We resorted to looking at the menu by googling on our phones and gave her our drink order when she stopped by 20 minutes later. Our waitress let us know she had entered our first round of appetizers at this time.
At 9:25pm our drinks arrived at our table. In the ridiculous time spent waiting for a drink order, other tables around us were receiving various dishes at random times. Service staff appeared to be working hard but struggling to locate where their deliveries should be made. Forty minutes passed before our waitress touched our table again. In this time, we were left without drinks, water or answers to where our food was. She finally approached and admitted to chaos and attempted to intercept another service staff's bread delivery for our table. He declined, asking her for the location of another table. At this point our drinks were empty and no food had been delivered and she stomped away. Horrendously awkward.
-At 10:00pm our bread arrived. After our appetizers were delivered an hour and forty five minutes after we sat down our waitress assured us that our experience would be comped and not to worry. -At 10:45pm our main course(s), including four small, cold, over-cooked pieces of fish, arrived. When our drinks arrived a bit later, our Waitress apologized profusely, promising we would be comped. She did not give more details. As we were waiting on our last course, we decided to end this miserable experience. We asked the waitress to close our tab for the drinks, as midnight was quickly approaching, and we wanted to leave and reclaim what was left of our night (30 mins until midnight)
Throughout our experience, staff circled our tables, audibly frustrated with the poor situation and each other. The DJ had begun early in the evening, with tables dancing hours before we even had the opportunity to see our meals. The meals we did receive were cold, the portions small, and we ate at times without plates or even silverware on the table.
The waitress delivered the check without any comps, said "it is never this bad here, there are not enough apologies in the world” but took our card and swiped it for the full amount of the meal & drinks with an automatic $124 gratuity added. Nothing was comped and all we received for a $900 bill was hunger, frustration, and regret that we chose to dine with you this night. This will live on in all our minds as the worst dining experience that we have all ever experienced. Your teams management of this night ruined new year’s eve for all of us and...
Read moreMy spouse and I attended the Luna Del Mar event, looking for a unique experience on the beach at “Cayman’s #1 restaurant” for our last evening on the island. This is not the experience we or anyone else got except for the private party directly adjacent to us which Kaibo was also hosting. Our meal and server were excellent, however the noise of the conflicting DJs (yes, the private party had their own DJ including sound system and lighting) did not deliver on the experience we were hoping for. Other tables around us all shared looks and whispers of initial surprise as to what was occurring, which quickly turned into annoyance and frustration. During a quality check from our server (who I can’t say enough positive things about) was advised of the aforementioned, the Luna Del Mar DJ shut down shortly after leaving us to take-in the thumping noise of the private party reminiscent of a nightclub, meters away from where Kaibo was hosting their Luna Del Mar patrons. Our bill came and we paid it in full despite not getting the experience we hoped for.
When exiting the restaurant I spoke with a manager expressing our displeasure of what was advertised vs what was delivered and their response was even more disappointing…which prompted this review. Not knowing this at the time, my spouse was speaking to another manager who literally tapped her on the shoulder (twice) stating they were, “sorry but what were they to do when the private party advised them of their intentions regarding the DJ?” My interaction with the manager I was dealing with wasn’t much different minus the patronizing pat-pat.
This was sold as a romantic, full moon experience, and what we got was a noisy, nightclub atmosphere with unsympathetic management to the situation. They could have acknowledged the issue and dealt with it a few different ways aside from offering a complimentary drink (and tap-taping) as we are ready to leave. After all this, we couldn’t leave soon enough and passed on their offer to make us feel as “valued guests”. I would challenge anyone there that evening for Luna Del Mar who felt “valued” in comparison to the private party attendees.
In summary great food and service but horrible management/leadership. Never before have we been so disappointed leaving a restaurant. I felt it was necessary to share our experience so others do not waste their time or money...
Read moreWithout doubt the most disappointing dining/service experience I've had in Cayman in the last 6 months that I've been here. The food wasn't too bad, the roast chicken was actually pretty tasty, but the salads weren't great. The cocktails were very disappointing, particularly when you pay $12 for a cocktail that comes in a plastic cup from a watercooler with a paper straw (points for sustainability) that is about twice the height of the plastic cup. I would have been fine with all that were it not for the borderline rude service from one of the female servers (the guy she passed us over to was really nice). The sign at the entrance says 'Open Seating, sit where you like' so we found one of the few tables remaining and sat down. There were three of us and it was a large table but there weren't really any other appropriate options - not ideal, but when it's open seating, that is bound to happen at times. Then our server entered the picture and asked us to move to a more suitable table (for her and the restaurant, not for us), all the while proceeding to give us a lecture on how we need to keep the big tables free for big groups. She put us on a small two-person table, which probably would have been fine if we were only drinking, except that we had told her we wanted food and that we would be sharing what we ordered. We tried to order food but the first couple of things that we wanted were not available. When the food did come out, we were presented with saucer-size plates to share the dishes, which we then had to try to work with as the table was so small. I'm pretty sure the lettuce leaves from the loose leaf salad where larger than the plates we were supposed to eat from (I was hugely frustrated at that point so my memory could be playing tricks on me). All the while, the larger table that we were moved from lay empty. This was definitely not the 'luxe beach dining' that the website promises, it feels more like a tourist trap for the captive audience of Rum Point area. If you want fine dining, go to Bacaro instead. I couldn't find any way to contact the management directly, but I'm happy to provide further detail to anyone that...
