I stumbled upon this hidden gem on a Friday night, just before the kitchen was about to close at 10:50 PM. I initially thought they were open until midnight, but it turns out the kitchen wraps up a bit earlier. Unlike other places where you might feel rushed at closing time, the staff here welcomed me with open arms, delivering outstanding food and impeccable service.

The next night, I couldn't resist returning to this delightful spot. The food was not only delicious but also reasonably priced – a rarity in tourist-heavy areas. Plus, they serve authentic Chilean cuisine with a genuine smile. This time, I arrived earlier to savor the experience fully.

To my surprise, the owner was present that Saturday night. I posted a photo of my dish on Instagram, tagging the restaurant, and the owner reposted my story! He introduced himself and thanked me for the shoutout, sharing the heartwarming history of the restaurant. The place was once his family home, and he aimed to preserve that welcoming, homely vibe.

The owner revealed that he started the restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic, facing numerous challenges. Despite the odds, the restaurant has started thriving, attracting more patrons with each passing day. When you step into the outdoor seating area, you instantly feel the hominess. The staff's warm greetings enhance this feeling as you walk through the door.

The prices are fantastic, and the food quality far surpasses the overpriced, hit-or-miss offerings of typical tourist traps. Barrio Sur does a great job of bringing the warmth and flavors of Chile to the table. The staff was attentive yet discreet during our large group event for about 20 people. They accommodated our requests quickly and with a smile.

The facilities were clean and the decor made for a warm and cozy environment. Very family style.

The food was well prepared and portioned, and my ribeye steak with papas fritas and grilled vegetables was really tasty. My steak came out medium well instead of the medium I ordered, but every cook is different so next time I'd order medium rare.

Hoy fuimos nuevamente con mi pareja a almorzar a Barrio Sur....hemos ido unas 10 a mas veces. Nunca habíamos tenido una queja en relación al restaurant...todo lo contrario...lo recomendamos muchó....pero hoy fue una larga espera de los platos ...mas de una hora .....y cuando llegan lamentablemente se equivocaron en el pedido...en vez de prietas arrollado con papas trajeron una cazuela.....nosotros estabamos apurados porque teníamos visita en la clinica por ende tampoco podíamos dar el lujo de seguir esperando nuevamente la espera del plato....así que no había otra cosa que almorzar eso que se trajo que no era de nuestro gusto. Al traer la cuenta se solicitó una atención por el mal rato y se dijo que no...a lo mas un café...y nosotros con el retraso que ya llevabamos era imposible. Al restaurant le comento que no sirve en nada en deshacerse en disculpas si no hay una actitud real de resolver el problema y que el cliente se retire sin quedar disgustado por la situación. Se que esto y estoy segura es un caso inhabitual....ya que no he tenido queja alguna antes del restaurant.....muy rica comida y nada que decir....pero lo dejo explicito para que el restaurant tenga mi opinión y a la hora de tener problemas tenga mejor resolución el...
