Fernando's has been a favourite family owned local restaurant for years and a visit to Macau is not complete without a lunch of their authentic Portuguese food with a Macanese twist. Doors open at 12noon and the rustic red brick walled and wooden beam roofed venue fills up quickly so it's recommend to arrive early and queue - a walk along the adjacent beach is an added treat if the line isn't too long...The food is honest, hearty, flavoursome and consistent. The Tomato, Onion and Lettuce Salad is made with the freshest ingredients and together with the olive oil dressing is perfect in its simplicity. Grilled Sardines are a must with their salted crispy skins and tasty white meat, paired with boiled potatoes, tomato, onion and green pepper salad. Prawns in Clam Sauce are outstanding with the plentiful garlic infused gravy needing to be soaked up by the freshly baked crusty bread rolls that are served centre table at the start of the meal. Fried Rice with Sausage is solid although not an essential menu item and works as a main in itself or as an accompaniment with other mains - more of a Chinese than Portuguese cuisine. Roast Veal with Chips should have been special but the meat on this occasion was a bit dry although the home cut chips were perfectly cooked and soaked up the delicious gravy well. The chips are so good that they are worth ordering as a side if not included in any of the mains. Egg Pudding (home made crème caramel) is a great conclusion to a fine meal and is heavenly with it's creamy silky texture and sticky sweet caramel syrup. Drinks wise, a jug of sangria and/or a bottle of Portuguese Super Bock beer pair well. Looking forward to my next...
Read moreOut of the way in Macau and we found not easy to get to but the food is good. Can't say it the best like others as I have nothing to compare it to. The restaurant is at the end of the parking lot and the sign is difficult to see as it is covered by tree branches and leaves. There is no greeter the door so you don't know to head to the back of the restaurant to put your name on a list that no one tells you about. When you are back there they point to a counter where you find a list with names on it, add yours. You need to keep track of the time you wait because they don't call names out. They go from group to group of people sitting in their courtyard asking them their name. If they skip yours you won't know. Also what they don't tell you is that the list is for tables in their back sitting area only. The front sitting area that you walk through to get to the back to put your name on the list is available if you ask. There were open tables when we got there and after waiting 20+ minutes we learned they started pulling off a second list. They then offered to sit us immediately in the front or waiting for a table in the back. Very fast friendly service. We had the garlic shrimp which was great and tasty. We also had the sardines which were not too salty, moist with a...
Read moreDining solo at Fernando's was an experience to remember. I ordered half a serving of their Ameijoas à Moda da Casa (Fernando's Style Clams in white wine sauce), and it was perfection. The clams were fresh, tender, and cooked beautifully, with a flavorful broth that begged to be soaked up. Thankfully, their complimentary bread was served in a generous portion—crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for savoring every last drop of the sauce.
The atmosphere added to the charm—warm, laid-back, and inviting, even on a quiet, rainy day. While the servings are large, half a portion was just right for a solo traveler like me.
A huge shout-out to Kuwatin—the kind server/cashier who went above and beyond to help me. I was struggling to catch a bus because they only accepted MPass or Macanese patacas (MOP), and I didn’t have either. Kuwatin generously offered to exchange coins for me by letting me tap my Visa card in exchange for bus fare. It saved me from having to get an MPass or withdraw more money than I needed, especially since every bus ride only costs 6 MOP. I was able to estimate my rides and continue exploring hassle-free.
This level of service deserves more than five stars. Fernando’s is a must-visit—not just for the food but for their incredible...
