Asra Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Sha Tin District

Asra is located in the small and not so easy to find Shatin Galleria complex in the industrial area of Fo Tan. It has been around for quite a while now and for good reason. They cook up surprisingly good Indian food, better than most places I've tried in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island over the years.

Opening hours are 11am-3pm (lunch) and 5-10pm (dinner). Seating is tight which is typical of Hong Kong restaurants, service is friendly. Unlike Chinese restaurants in the area, no issues whatsoever with taking orders in English. Prices are higher than what you'd expect but food is prepared in a timely manner, portion sizes are fair and the food tastes quite good.

During a recent meal I has the Lunch Set - Signature Lamb Vindaloo, served with naan and a papadum. The lamb was cooked well and took on the strong flavours of the Vindaloo quite nicely. This was a tasty (and very spicy hot) curry, one I'd be happy to order again.

Have also enjoyed their butter chicken, Murg Tikka Massala, Kadai Gosht, Jalfrezi and a few other orders at Asra over the years. Can't recall being served anything in recent years that I disliked.

Note: If you are staying in the Shatin area, you can actually order from Asra and have your food delivered by Deliveroo. I won't be as good as being served directly to your table. However, it would save you the trouble of trying to find the Shatin Galleria where this little...

This is an authentic and classic Indian restaurant in the New Territories area.

The service here is great. There is only one manager usually and although he doesn't seem to speak Cantonese, he is quick and attentive. I've also seen him deal with annoying customers patiently. Overall the restaurant is chill, clean and quiet. Don't expect some upscale or trendy place, think of a small mom-n-pop run Indian joint in London. This goes to show that it's the real deal man.

One chicken curry set lunch is only $65 HKD; you get naan and rice, as well as a little bit of veg. They don't cheap out on the portion of meat, and you will be guaranteed to be full afterwards. Other set lunch may go for around 90, which I think is a great deal too. I usually come here for a set lunch and mango lassi, highly recommend!
