Shiqilao — Restaurant in Zhongshan

This place is apparently famous for pigeon and there was a big line before it opened at 5 pm outside. There was a rush to go in when it opened like Disneyland just opened.

Now there were plenty of food and animals for food available, including if you are brave, frogs and grubs. Amongst the available food, we ordered some pineapple buns that tasted amazing. However and a big however, the place is famous for its crispy pigeon and boy this was a huge disappointment.

The crispy pigeon is just that, crispy but that's it. The internal flavours are bland and the moment you bite into it, you realise the restaurant is purely overhyped. Quite disappointing when you can't deliver on the most iconic dish.

That being said, there are lot of chefs with their own specialities that it looks like a food court...

Locals told us this place is famous and whilst it might have been before it seems like it is running on hype now.

The fried squab did taste good though but not so much that I would endure the 90's hong kong restaurant feel complete with rude servers, dripping air conditioning and questionable...

This place has gone very downhill. The pigeon is not as small, the skin not as crispy as before. The cuttlefish not as crunchy...And charges for peanuts and pickled onions whether you eat it or not. Not...
