Olivia — Restaurant in Medellín

Olivia is an Italian fusion restaurant that I tried once many years ago and wrote off back then, I only recently came back as a friend wanted to eat here for his birthday.

While I was there I couldn’t remember why I hadn’t liked it! We tried 3 different pizzas and they were all pretty good! We all particularly liked the pineapple and pepperoni one with thick base.

This place isn’t for purists obviously, as they mix ingredients that many Italians would refuse to eat even at gunpoint… and perhaps it’s me who has changed, since now I enjoy good food even if it goes against the “rules” if made properly, and maybe that’s why I now like Olivia now?

Don’t know and don’t really care, but now I really want to come back to eat the heresy that is their thick pineapple pepperoni pizza and have a shot at...

Good Italian style cuisine with many options for pizza toppings. The ambience is nice and it is definitely family friendly. Also great for groups.

I ordered the carpaccio de solomito, which was a nice sized portion for an appetizer to share in a group, the ensalada de cogollo (it was so delicious!), the il giardino pizza (also very good and the crust was nice and thin), and pasta larga con albóndiga. I wasn’t too fond of the pasta, but a friend highly recommended their pasta, so maybe it was an off night or what I ordered just isn’t their best pasta dish.

Overall, I liked the food, the atmosphere, and the service was good as well. A little slow, but that’s just typical...

He visitado el restaurante varias veces, pero hoy tuve una experiencia que no me gustó para nada.

Primero: Usualmente la persona que recibe cuando uno ingresa al restaurante es muy amable. Hoy, desde la llegada, la percepción fue como que la persona que nos recibió lo hacía de mala gana - tal vez por ser 6 de Enero, tal vez por la hora (7:45 PM), pero no fue un recibimiento cálido como siempre.

Segundo: La comida se demoró bastante. Me molesté porque vi que una mesa que llegó 20 minutos después, ya tenía su comida en la mesa y le pregunté a la mesera, quién me respondió que eran entradas y también, que los platos de los niños tenían prioridad. Lo entiendo, pero no soy tan comprensivo como para justificar que una mesa que llegó 20 minutos después, le sirvan primero (no hablo únicamente de las entradas), solo por tener niños.

Tercero: 9:00 PM y el señor que cuida los carros cierra una especie de cortinilla metálica que da hacia la calle. Apagan toda la música como si fuera un bar en el que necesitan que la gente se salga, teniendo en cuenta que 10 minutos antes, seguían ingresando comenzales que apenas estaban viendo la carta. Me pareció de muy mal gusto la manera en la que "muere" el ambiente del lugar, de una forma abrupta. Creo que si quieren cerrar a las 9, entonces no deben dejar entrar a nadie desde mucho antes. Pero si permiten que ingrese gente hasta las 9, entonces creo que el restaurante debería manetener el ambiente hasta que salga el último. Hay otras maneras de decirle a la gente que el restaurante cierra a xx hora.

Finalmente, no tengo duda de que el restaurante invierte en formación en servicio al cliente, eso es evidente a lo largo de los distintos puntos. Pero creo que es importante elegir muy bien quién estará trabajando en fechas como estas, porque hoy se notó un servicio distinto al de siempre, y para mi, así como cada vez que vuelvo estoy reconociendo lo bien que lo hacen, una experiencia como la de hoy, no me genera ninguna intención...
