Chicharronera Don Yayo — Restaurant in Atenas

We tried the chifrijo based on another review, and it was definitely a not to be missed dish while you are in Costa Rica. The waiter encouraged us to do a mix of crispy and not crispy pork, and that was perfect. Chifrijo = chicharron (fried pork) + frijoles (beans). There was also pico de gallo for added zest. Yum!

Casado with pollo was excellent too.

If you order coffee, be aware that there might be a wait. They seem to need to go next door to get it, but it was delicious.

They will help you park and back out into busy street. It's good to give the parking attendant a tip of a few coins or maybe a 1000 colones bill.

The food here is delicious, we come here often. Their Sopa Azteca with chicken is my favorite anywhere, and the fried tortilla strips they serve as the crunchy topping for the soup are addictively good. Their patacones are my favorites of that dish too! Thin, crispy, and delicious! Their Cantonese rice is flavorful, and a decent facsimile of Chinese fried rice. American ex-pats here, live right around the corner. I love this place. The food, especially Chifrio, Chicharrones, fried fish/shrimp, is really good in both quality and taste. Great place to watch a soccer game, catch up with a friend, or sit at the bar and watch the world go by.
