El Fogón Campesino — Restaurant in Atenas

Was with a group of 9 people at an Airbnb and we were searching for a dinner spot. Came across this place online and checked out the menu. One of our friends actually spoke Spanish and called the restaurant and spoke to the chef who offered a "Chef's Table" option. The cost was approximately $50 CDN per person for a 5 course meal prepared by the chef and numerous bottles of wine so we decided to go with that. We picked the seafood theme vs. the meat theme. This was truly the best meal I have EVER had in my life. Everything was exceptional and the chef personally served us each course, poured endless amounts of wine, and described each dish in detail. My wife and I enjoyed the Chef's Table to ourselves one evening. We both agree it's one of if not the best meals we've had anywhere in the world. The food was off the charts amazing, the atmosphere is quiet and calm yet entertaining with the window into the chef's preparation area and the chef was open, friendly and communicative throughout the entire meal. He explained a little about each course he was serving and answered all our inquires along the way. This is another outstanding restaurant for our sweet little city. Food is fresh, creative in presentation and the portions are generous. Wonderful friendly service and most waitpersons speak English. Their menu is in both English and Spanish. Their take on Tico food and South American food is unique and original. I love this place. I highly recommend it.
