FOOD POISONING ALERT:
Warning and caution to anyone who cares about their health (vegan or not). I hardly ever leave negative reviews, however, this one feels mandatory. Yesterday, my partner and I were dining at Eat Street and ordered the Sweet Potato Curry Bowl from ‘Happy Bowls’ while noticing the chef behind the counter preparing our food using the same gloves he used immediately after handling RAW uncooked chicken flesh.
As soon as I noticed this, we approached our waiter and kindly asked if they could ask the chef to use new gloves. I noticed him communicate the concern to the chef but to our surprise, he didn’t seem to think much of it. Needless to say, the chef turned around to where we couldn’t fully see how he finished preparing our dish and proceeded to serve our food. I am almost certain he didn’t change his gloves which is EXTREMELY alarming and DANGEROUS when considering Salmonella exposure to be the second-leading cause of food borne illnesses.
Sure enough, last night my partner woke up vomiting profusely for hours and hours, resulting in severe dehydration and chills all throughout his body—and is still feeling very unwell as I type this review.
This is where it gets disturbing. I took a drive this morning to get my partner some electrolytes (coconut water) and decided to stop at Eat Street along the way and speak to the manager. When I shared with him what had happened, he responded by saying “sometimes they forget to change their gloves” and that the chef was “still learning”. First of all, forgetting to change gloves should be completely unacceptable when handling other peoples food if you truly care about protecting the health and wellbeing of other’s and mitigating any risks. Secondly, I’ve been coming to Santa Teresa for many years and the chef who was dealing with this definitely was not “learning” as he’s been there for at least 2 years now.
I was completely shocked to hear this information and response come out of a managers mouth—while showing little to no concern for my partners situation. This is food and beverage safety standards 101 and something that should be taken seriously and trained on from day one. There needs to be a better safety management system here while enforcing and making cleanliness and sanitation MANDATORY.
If you’re reading this and still choose to dine at Eat Street, make sure you’re paying attention to how your food is being handled. Otherwise, you (or someone you love) may just end up sick or worse—hospitalized due to poor and careless handling.
It goes without saying, my family and I will definitely no longer be...
Read moreThis is the 3rd visit to Eat Street this month and it's been up and down. They are busy, which is a great problem to have, and the staff is generally great, helpful, smiling and fun. I think I caught them on an off night tonight, so I don't want to be too down on them, but I think I just pushed all the wrong buttons. First thing, my wife ordered online for pick up. I walked down and waited in line at Nomad for almost 15 minutes. When I got to the front of the line, my wife texted me that the order didn't go through. The gentleman at Nomad, who has always been great, asked me to go to a different line to order takeout, since the online option didn't work.
I get to the takeout line and have to explain 3 times to 2 different people that I need to make a takeout order. By the time I order, I've been there for almost 25 minutes. I order, and head to the bar to get a drink while I wait. I sit at the bar. There are 5 people at the bar. The bartender makes 2 rounds of drinks for the bar, and without greeting me, then turns to me and says it would be better for me to get up and order drinks from a woman who is operating a register that seems like it would be for a service bar for people sitting at tables, not for bar patrons. The bartender shows me a tablet which shows the 4 (four!) drinks ahead of me. At this point, I decide it's not worth the trouble to get up, walk over to someone else and order a gin and tonic since the bartender who has four drinks to make thinks he's in the weeds, and just go sit on a stool and wait for my food. Which only takes 40 minutes! Once I get the food back to the family, there is one order (mine of course) which is completely wrong, and there was a missing item which I had paid for. I would love to have rated Eat Street higher. I want it to be a place that is 5 stars because the concept is cool, most of the people that work there are cool and it has so much potential. But you can't get 5 stars if you don't have your act together...
