Small cafe but large menu of delicious food! I ordered the Mahi Mahi Taco Salad $12 and (2) Imperial Beers $4 each. Total was $22 USD including a $2 service fee. The Mahi Mahi Taco salad was had a generous amount of fresh ingredients including lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, carrots, pico de gallo, avocado slices, tortilla strips, black beans and (4) strips of seared fish with a side of ranch style dressing. It was a pleasant change from the traditional Costa Rican cuisine predominately made up of rice and beans. They serve breakfast starting at 8am, lunch and dinner however the kitchen is closed 2:30pm - 5pm. Happy hour runs from 3pm - 6pm. There's a small kids area with toys to keep the little ones occupied. The tiny bar area seats 2 or 3 comfortably on either side. Service was gracious and attentive.

My favorite restaurant in the Playa Grande area! We ate and drank here several times on our trip. The food was amazing and very fresh! The homemade key lime pie and banana bread ice cream sandwich was to die for! Drink specials were always awesome and loved the small size cafe feel. The best part was the staff! So fun and welcoming, xtra big thank you to Victor and Jason for showing us a great time and going above and beyond in service. Hoping to be back próximo año! A regular stop for us in the future 💜 Micha

There’s a reason this place is so popular: Victor provides amazing service, the food is fantastic and the drinks are very good! This is our second time visiting as a group. The fresh tuna with veggies and mashed potatoes is yummy, the Seabass was fantastic, chicken wings were crispy, and the teriyaki tuna special was excellent. Be sure to look for the resident pet cat who oversees the entire operation! Reservations are recommended. We hope to return on our next visit!

We are in Costa Rica visiting my parents who live here. This restaurant came highly recommended and my husband and I took our two daughters (age 8 and 9) and my 70yo+ parents for a 6:30pm reservation (we had to go in person to the restaurant two days before to pay a deposit to hold the reservation).

We ordered drinks and our girls’ meals as soon as we sat down; and then ordered ours a few minutes later (all of the orders were placed by 6:45). At 7:45pm my husband followed up with our waiter for our daughters’ meals, which arrived a few minutes later. At 8:10pm, once my girls had now finished eating their meals and were ready to go home, my husband kindly followed up with our server for the rest of our meals.

I was shocked by how rude and disrespectful he was to my husband, threatening to cancel our entire order for being impatient. I have never seen anyone speak so rudely to a patron (and we certainly weren’t wrong for following up).

Our meals arrived a moment later, but we were all so upset by the interaction that we packed lost of it up and left.

My parents said they have never seen anything like this during their time living here, as the service is always so friendly. Before we left, after paying the bill (with not even a free drink offered) I let them know that the slow service was tolerable - it happens and clearly the place was busy - but I also explained that it’s never okay to speak to someone the way their server did and that ultimately, it was the interaction that was so upsetting, and frankly shocking.

I don’t usually write online reviews, but after spending close to $200 and leaving feeling so mistreated, I felt it was worthy of a warning to others that the service may be...

Disappointing Customer Service Experience

I recently visited Cafe Mar Azul, and I must say, the customer service was incredibly disappointing. From the moment we walked in, we felt that we were not wanted. We were greeted with, “ I guess you can sit here, do you have any kids with you”, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy.

Once seated, our server seemed disinterested. They rushed through the order-taking process and barely made eye contact. Reminding us that the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes even though the restaurant did not close for another 50 minutes. When our food arrived, one of the dishes was incorrect, and it took another 20 minutes to get the right order after asking twice.

To make matters worse, when we asked for clarification on our order the waiter was disinterested in explaining things to us and would walk away from our table while talking to us. The lack of respect and attention paid to customers was frustrating.

I had higher expectations for cafe Mar Azul, especially given its reputation. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning due to this experience, and I cannot recommend it based on the poor customer...

My partner got food poisoning from here, as we had been sharing every meal for days until we had breakfast here and he had presumably expired milk in his smoothie. Or it could’ve been the eggs, as in the tacos they were underdone and I couldn’t personally eat it. So I mainly had rice and plantain for a very expensive price.

The lady who served us was also very rude when we went to pay, we had been very nice and when she typed in the cost into the card machine, she forgot to press “enter” or “accept” so when my partner put in his pin, it added on an extra 4 digits to the cost. Which almost could’ve costed our card hundreds/thousands of dollars. He tried to explain to redo it and she just was stubborn and said his card wasn’t working and didn’t try again. He had to get me to come pay and I was nervous to then put my card in, in case she accidentally charged me way more. Thankfully it was fine but the overall experience wasn’t the greatest. I wasn’t going to make a review but my partner had the worst night of food poisoning and gastro, the worst he’s ever experienced. So the kitchen needs to be more aware of its...
